Show me your non-stock Stumpys
I didn't see a community pic thread on vintage Stumpjumpers.
Just picked this 1990 up this morning. Missing the correct front wheel and saddle, but otherwise pretty clean and original. I swapped on a set of period wheels I already had the street tires mounted on and did a quick 10m road ride. I hate to admit it, but I'm thinking of keeping it and making a cockpit change. Never liked the "superman" positioning of that era mtb. Dirt drops seem to be a little too trendy, although I have a 46cm VO rando bar/Nitto DD stem that would be perfect on a mtb. I could have sworn I had an AT-4 somewhere, but I haven't seen it in years. Might be time to clean the garage.
As found. Amazon pedals, saddle, and grips aren't bad. Everything covered in 1-2 years worth of dust.

This is my trail bike. 2.5” front and 2.3” rear tires, 1x8 gears, Cannondale bar & stem, Suntour bear trap pedals. Very nimble.

Man, wish I could play in this thread; still haven't scored a nice Stumpy.
Here is the Hard Rock Ultra and the Rock Hopper Comp that I managed to put together this summer, though!

I put a drop bar on a Stumpy a few years back, but it wasn't for me. The bike was converted back and sold off.

Converted this 94 FSR just last week. Was 3x7, now 1x10. Solved the slammed cockpit with new taller fork and extra tall stem. Frame, seatpost, brake calipers are the only original parts remaining.

How “non-stock” do you want to go? This one started as a 1998 Stumpjumper Pro M2 (the breaking ones). It then went on a bit of a trip.
After it broke, Specialized gave me a 2003 Specialized Stumpjumper Pro M4 (the nonbreaky one)
Then it became a red Specialized Rockhopper because I wanted a bit of color in my stable.
Then it got changed to a Dean.
The final, highly modified Stumpjumper

This was one that I bought from the daughter of the original owner who said she bought it from the shop in 1984 set up like this. I checked in with Specialized who said they didn’t have records of ever having produced a mixte frame.
Best guess it that this had been modified at the selling shop for a different customer, then put out on the sales floor. Original owner said she bought it new set up like this. An odd one to be sure!

That spot sits above the mouth of the valley leading to Darrington, with Highway 530 and the North Fork Stillaguamish river. Here's a shot from the same overlook, with the camera turned much more to the left (east):
This is looking more or less toward Oso. Mountains Whitehorse and Three Fingers are prominent on the center-right.
If I took a photo between these two angles, Mt Pilchuck would be visible.

Winter resto
Summer riding
As found
I post this one wherever I can. I’ve got a build thread here as well 92 Stumpjumper restomod. I kept the brakes, rear derailleur hubs and wheel, and seat post. Seat came off a Marin Bear Valley SE I bought. Added bull moose bars and narrow wide chain ring by USA Made Components.

Re: Silver Mixte
I just bought a 1983 Sport and the setup looks basically identical, but not a mixte.
