Do Old School Jerseys Still Exist?
Just getting back into road riding after a few decades. Back then, we wore 1/4 (at most) zip pull over jerseys that weren't snug as a sausage roll. Yes, they may flap a bit in the wind and they had some give. Do they exist anymore? I'm trying to get some clothes and all I see are tight full zips like I'm doing a time trial. I bought one from black bib and yeah, not ready for that (yet).

There are tons of jerseys that don't fit like sausage casings -- the most common term is "club fit." Just shop around and avoid "race fit."
As for the zippers, well, full zips are just better. They make it easier to get the jersey on and off, allow more ventilation on hot days, etc. You can find quarter zip jerseys, but there's a reason why they are less common than full zips.

Understood and makes since. I bought the "relaxed fit" from black bib and it fits tighter than I thought. Sure, I have a few pounds to lose though. Any other recommendations? Was trying not to go straight to high-end expensive until I have a good idea of my size with more economical brands. Thanks!
Another suggestion would be to just buy a different brand's club fit. Rapha Core line is decently club in fit and can be had for $60 during sales. Voler has multiple levels of jersey(prices) in club fit.
The king of club fit graphic jerseys is Primal.

In my experience jerseys designed for mountain bikers seems to be a looser fit, but since I haven't bought very many that may just be coincidence.

Thanks everyone. I've bookmarked the suggested websites and will take a look. I will exchange the size I bought from BB and get the larger one and go from there.

There are plenty of retro-look jerseys, but fit is really down to how closely you match the shape of a typical rider. You would still look like a sausage in that jersey Greg is wearing in that photo. At least the modern ones will stretch more! Just size up until they fit and avoid “race-cut” gear. As you get fitter it will become easier to find a good fit.

What’s the objection to full zip? You don’t have to unzip it all the way if you don’t want to, but being able to do so has its upsides.

FWIW, I've started unzipping most of my full-zip jerseys 3/4 down, and pulling them over. Too many of my newer jerseys have zippers better suited for some dainty compact compartment in a lady's purse than a jersey, and it's getting hard to see the zipper to manipulate the fragile things to zip or unzip all the way.

I don't know how "old school" they are, but relaxed fit jerseys certainly exist. Soft goods buying is one of my least favorite thing to do...

I was visiting a bike shop in Solvang, California, and there was a little seperate room full of jerseys. I walked into the room, and starting looking around. I then heard some disembodied voice say "Those are European fit jerseys, you know."

Maybe it's me, but I've found that "club fit" jerseys of today seem real damn snug compared to any of the jerseys of Bygone Days (meaning, say, two decades ago). I don't really mind, though. I pass one mirror on the way out the door to ride, and I seldom look in it. I can't stand the sound of flapping fabric, and I don't have to see myself - that's everyone else's nightmare to deal with.
One problem I've found with "sizing up", however, is that the jerseys don't just get WIDER, they also get LONGER, which can get to be a problem.

You do have the inexpensive New from China, jerseys that have all the actual measurements listed in CM and sometimes both centimeters and inches.
I cannot attest to the quality of all of them, but I have found that the few that I have purchased have been decent quality, much better than one would expect given the very low prices.
I am sure that you can find your measurements and then use that information to choose the right-sized elcheapo no-name direct from China that fits you perfectly.
Yeah.....you pay your money and you take your chances, but the quality and durability of the garment should be good based on my experience having ordered several between 2017 and 2019 and then again during 2023 from various major Chinese vendors on Ebay.
