Rouvy issue - Power and Cadence correct, speed WAY off. Anyone?

Posted this in the wrong forum. Moving it here.
https://www.bikeforums.net/training-...l#post23097580

I know what my speed is supposed to look like based on power, cadence, gradient etc. numbers in real life.

In Rouvy:
- climbing = good
- flat = fast (no way that I would be doing 3w/kg and moving at over 35kmh)
- downhill = stupid fast even not spinning

I have noticed this issue when my wife riding the same route with me, all of a sudden started getting dropped and i would finish the route (lets say 50km) 5-10 minutes ahead? Her average speed would be 30ish kmh and my 35kmh.
Any ideas? If we were not riding together, who cares, but in case I would like to see proper numbers.

Me = Kicker Core, correct weight and height checked
Her = Tacx Flux S, correct weight and height checked

It was noted that this could be due to height issues (188cm and 156cm) and it would make sense how this would affect outdoor riding and be null indoors. But I still dont believe that my flat and downhill speed is correct, or maybe I am stronger than I think I am once wind is removed

Yes, just like all others, it is very slippery. I ride in time trail mode to eliminate the draft, which brings the speed to a more realistic level.

Yes, both.
Never fails, last ride was 55km with 550m elevation and again I finished 5km faster than her. No matter what route, unless I am only easy spinning zone 1/2, this will happen.

maybe yo are a stronger rider than your wife. i know i would be compared to mine, if she ever rode. not being on the real road but physically being next to each other you may just have a tendency to ride slightly harder. on the road you may have a tendency to hold back due to the physical nearness.

how about your height and weight parameters in Rouvy, are they correct for both of you?

not sure if possible but maybe you can try swapping trainers for a ride or two? but pretty sure Rouvy determines speed based on height/weight/power/terrain.

3 W/kg would put me right on 35 kph in real life on the flat with no headwind. 184 cm tall at 85 kg
Maybe you are much lighter?

I am 188cm and 78kg. She is 156cm and 55kg.
We did a ride last weekend outdoors with 80km and 800m climbing, she had no problems keeping up, sitting on the back wheel and we averaged 30.4kmh
Then we did a ride indoors with the 90km and 800m climbing. At the end she was 16km behind. She averaged 28kmh and me 34kmh.This is what I dont understand.

if you are just riding then i am not sure if she gets the benefit of the draft. you should be able to see this while riding though if it is there.

I'm not surprised that your Rouvy average speed was higher. Perfectly still weather, smooth roads, optimised virtual aero position etc. But it does sound like your wife wasn't getting any draft in Rouvy. That would be the first thing to check. Draft Wattage should show above here avatar.

Have you tried swapping trainers?

Edit: Since she finished 16 km behind, obviously she got no draft!

There is a resistance fudge factor in Rouvy. I set it way down when my wife was riding with hip and knee problems, and then forgot about it until I went for a ride, and had symptoms like you describe.

I will try swapping the trainers or reduce the "reality" level her side and report back. Thank you all for the suggestions.

it had been a while since i just did a ride in Rouvy. had been doing trainings lately. if you are riding in TT mode then there will be no draft. make sure your wife is not riding that way.

Can you fiddle with your height easily, like you can in zwift? I would increase my height.

It would help to know both your power stats from after that 90km ride.

I don't think there's anything severely wrong with the Rouvy simulation; it merely is unable to know the real aerodynamic drag of each rider. The speeds on Rouvy tend to be quicker than in the real world as they assume the rider is pretty aero. This benefits riders with more absolute power, i.e., larger riders, and is most noticeable on flat and downhill terrain where IRL the drag would play a bigger part in slowing those riders down. Note that lowering the reality setting in Rouvy won't make flat and downhills easier so that won't help you two stay together unless the gap is due to her getting dropped on climbs.

If you truly wish to stick together, then create a private group ride that you can lead as she will have a rubber-band effect that will speed her up the farther behind she is from you.

Thank you for the suggestions. See below for stats.
Her - avg. pwr 125W, avg speed 28.9kmh, avg cad 54rpm (she is a masher)
Me - avg pwr 216W, avg speef 33.8kmh, avg cad 95rpm

The route was exactly 81.9km with 752m elev.

Doe this tell you anything other than she benefits a LOT drafting off me in real world? Maybe the virtual rides with outdide elements removed for me, its just too much for her?
