Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Had I not stumbled upon mine on eBay, I would have got one just like yours.

Oh, I was looking for an original too, although the reissue would have been too good for me as well. I stumbled onto mine because the seller did a horrible job (filthy white bar type, flat & cracked tires, etc) of presenting the bike on eBay --- but it kept the winning bid nice and (relatively) low for me. I lucked-out.

I just finished building this bike for my friend. It is the flagship model of Chesini's early 90's offering, built out with current Campy 10 speed Centaur. The frame set was fished out of eBay (NOS), and the rest of the parts came either from various UK parts house retailers or local bike swaps.

A brand new, top-tier Italian Columbus SL steel bike, ready to roll. I have about 140 miles on it (shakedown) without issue, and will be turning the keys over to Bill this Wednesday. I hope he likes it.

Having a great time with this, but unfortunately the helicomatic hub is indeed as big of a PITA as its reputation would suggest, and it could really use a new wheelset.

In case anyone is wondering, my scale says it weighs about 24lbs with the heavy 27" wheels and tires, about 23lbs with the 700c wheels from my old team fuji (1lb more than the schwinn).

If the new owner won't take it, I will.

An old bike with new components.

It's a 1973 Schwinn Super Sport with fillet brazed CrMo frame and fork. Replaced original components with Campy Comp Triple (30-42-53t) group, Centaur Ergo shifters, Tektro long reach side-pulls, Thomson Elite post, V-O threadless stem adapter and stem, Cassette is IRD 10-s 12-32t. Gear range is 24.7 gear-inches to 116.5 gear-inches. Wheels are Campy Record 36h hubs, Open Pro 700c rims, and DT Swiss stainless Competition spokes laced 3X.

The bike lost 9 pounds with the upgrades.
