Photos - Calaveras Road
Yesterday was misty and overcast, so I rode from home in Palo Alto to Pleasanton in the East Bay. Calaveras Road, featured a couple of times in the Tour of California race, was pretty enough to warrant pulling out the camera.
Mustard in bloom, Piedmont Road:
"Easy" part of Calaveras, before "the wall":
Twists in the mist:
Lone cyclist climbing the shallow grade:
The Calaveras Reservior:
A pretty ride, lots of smiling riders out there. And zero cars.

When I saw Calaveras Road I thought it was the one in Milpitas. I remember back in high school when me and my buddies used to scare ourselves from an Urban Legend. Used to drive there at midnight and tried looking for the Calaveras Mountain Albino. LOL Then we ended up in what most of my friends considered "The Wall"... Sierra Road. Yep did my own fog ride this morning and I just got back.
WAIT... Piedmont Road. It is the one in Milpitas/San Jose border.

Calaveras road is good stuff!
You snowbounds guys would cry if you saw the view from West Alpine road and Skyline blvd yesterday morning just about 20 minutes north of Calaveras road. Makes me realize why people pay ridiculous amounts of money to live in CA.

The bay area is full of mountains and nice roads. Lots of people around here though. You don't want to take some of those beautiful mountain passes during rush hour.

Be careful on Calaveras in the narrow section between Geary and the resevoir construction area. Ive been to a couple cyclist vs. car/motorcycle crashes out there, mostly due to people that think its their own personal race track.
