Colnago has the name recognition hands down.
If you study the Grandis in detail, it is pretty easy to see which one came from a much smaller operation.
I like my Colnagos very much, they ARE recognized, appreciated by many.

I rode my Grandis in Stage 1 of the Waltham To Woburn Commuter Criterium again today. I won my age group, as I usually do. Of course, there was only one entry in my age group. I hope to win Stage 2 this afternoon.

The observant among you will notice all the extra stuff outside my lab. Manufacturing is starting to impinge on Engineering's workspace.

How does it ride compared to the Colnago?

Not saying I would pick it over the Nago, but I would keep it along side it easy.

Your Nago is beautiful no question and exactly what I would like to have in one.

My Grandis is a '73 so I can't speak to how the post Silvio one's were built but their bikes from that era were crafted not just built. So many small details that show how much care was taken in design and build and it's not just cosmetic details that make them stand out, they found the perfect balance between strength, lightness and responsiveness. I also really like that the present day Grandis still take a keen interest in their vintage bikes.

All the best in stage 2.

My kind of event.

Beautiful example, for sure.

Thanks. As for Stage 2, not only did I bonk but I also had a flat (which fortunately is a clincher, not a sew-up). So I finished second even though I was the only entry. Still, I finished!

Shawn, you absolutely have to keep up posted on your progress with that.

Don't know. The closest I've ever come to a Colnago is a Cannotgo which I've ridden a few times. No, let me correct that. Which I've tried to ride a few times and found, um, well, you get the idea.

it’s going to be awhile. If I decide to keep it I’ll need to buy a shorter stem and a decent wheelset.

I still have the other wheel set that came with your Colnago. Want it?

The other wheel set that came with your Colnago were MA40’s with Campy hubs. Barely a scratch on the braking surfaces

Stems are cheap and can be sold. Valuable tires can last a long time. Give the Grandis an honest chance and see where things end up.

I basically bought this to sell, I posted the frame on eBay but removed it 10 minutes later. I have a set of wheels lined up, proper stem and a few other things order. It’s a perfect fit with the exact measurements I like. It would be stupid to let it go. Thanks
for all the replies.

In ’82 or ’83 I had a Grandis I got from Gerald MacAuley. It was SLX, candy apple red with chrome drive stay. I put all Campy SR on it, an upgraded group Ti group I got from the Campy distributor. Brake levers were drilled, actually punched, and had Ti cable pulls. Brakes had Ti centerbolts and nuts and cable fixing bolt/nut. Ti BB axle (w/Campy logo) and alloy cups and Ti crank bolts, Ti pedal axles, and an alloy headset. All Ti bolts and pivots on the derailleurs. Ti hub axels and nuts. Even a Ti bolt in the seatpost. I'm quite sure that it was the prettiest bike I've ever owned.

Of course I sold it and I have never regretted selling anything more than I do that bike

Nice! I'm willing to bet that you could ride it and without looking never be able to tell the difference between that chainring and a SR ring.

That looks great with those wheels.
