Upgrading rim brake version to Di2 (mechanical)
Do not ask me why I’m doing it.
I am interested in upgrading my 2018 canyon ultimate SLX which has Shimano Ultegra R8000 components.
someone I am talking to said I can mix the components as long all have 11-speed. I’m hoping to do the following
fd ( Shimano Dura-Ace R9150 Di2 11-Speed)
rd ( Shimano Ultegra R8050 11 Speed Di2 )
shifters (dura ace or ultegra di2)
crankset (I might keep my original crankset but will see)
Might do the box battery option or the end (handlebars charger)
and finally cables.

Since you didn't ask any question, then I guess you are just putting it out there for the world to see that you've come to a decision.

I upgraded an 11Spd. 105 bike to Ultegra Di2 about 4 years ago. I needed the rim brake shifters, front derailer, rear derailer, battery and shim in the seat tube, A Junction at the stem, B junction in the seat tube, WU111 BT unit, plus appropriate cables. I kept the rim brakes, crank, b-bracket, cassette and chain. I subsequently changed from an 11-23 cassette to a 14-28, which was perfect. I think it cost about $800. Was worth it, has been trouble free and is a great shifting system,

Have you been to thise site?
www.bettershifting.com
It has a lot of useful information that doesn't require so much digestion and experience as sometimes just reading the technical documents and other stuff at Shimano's tech doc website can sometimes take..

Yes that will work, pending if you can find the parts you need. You can keep your original brakes and crankset.
Battery will likely be easiest in the seatpost, then the junction box is easiest to wire if it's the external box, but much neater with the internal handlebar plug option.

They eliminated the front stem/bar unit when they went to wireless shifters. I like the SRAM system of a battery on the derailers, avoids needing to remove the crank and b-bracket to run wires thru the down and seat tubes, the Shimano derailer battery does last a long time though.

should not be a problem as long as you get the rim brake shifters. I recently upgraded an older bike with SRAM AXS that used rim brakes versus hydraulic. This frame will not work with internal routing of cable and AXS eliminates that issue.

What do you mean by that? I thought all shifters were equal

Some of the di2 shifter are Hydraulic Brake only, some are Rim Brake only. So if your bike has rim brakes, you need to make sure the di2 shifters you get use cables for the braking. Most of the electronic has gone hydraulic only.
For example, this set of SRAM AXS is rim brake as it uses cables for the braking: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QC3GTVC...language=en_US

Sometimes, but with the di2 kits, you can make sure you get all the small Shimano parts that you might not realize you need. I had a buddy do this and had to go back and get several items later when it was going to put everything together

I think if you start pricing out individual items, shipping, etc, you'll find that a package like this is easier to put together, and probably either about the same price, if not a bit less.

take it to your LBS. Or, are you going to install all the parts yourself?
