Huffy Mark 10 (picture heavy)
/Got it for free and can't seem to find a whole lot on it. Is it worth anything? If so, leave it as is, or restore? Thanks.

Interesting... I wonder if it was originally a UK bike as it has the light mount on the right hand side of the fork...plus the sticker says "Genuine English Light Weight" on it.
I didn't know Huffy made any bikes for export.
Half Step gearing too.

I believe it is a Raleigh made bike sold by Huffy, probably dates to early-mid sixties.

Personally, I'd put a seat on it, a couple new tires, new brake pads, shine her up a bit and ride the heck out of it. Looks like a fairly decent condition 60's / 70's bike. Mafac and Huret were good components when it was made; not on a par with Campy or Suntour, but miles ahead of the Shimano and "Schwinn Approved" crap of that era.

I think it's worth keeping together, it's a very cool bike. I agree that it's probably built by Raleigh but the rear dropouts are different than I would expect.

Haha, yes a lot of it was. Also Normandy, Atom, Weinmann and Shimano... probably others. I always thought the "Schwinn Approved" derailleurs made by Shimano were the nicest, like the GT-250. Giant heavy steel things, but they worked pretty decent.

I believe that bike is worth a mild restoration. if you intend to keep it then Keep it factory except for the Allvit derail...get a Suntour GT or equivalent then new chain, bearings, tubes and tires. Kool stops for the brakes, cable replacement and a tune up on the rims! Polish the paint some fingernail polish on the scratches and a Brooks then ride the hell out of it!!!

Funny, looks like they used a front derailleur bb cable guide for the rear. Definitely not your average Huffy though.

I like it. I'd change the crappy alvit RD for a period benelux, or campy gran sport. You could have a real nice very rare and collectable english made late fifties to early sixties road bike! Don't do more than clean and polish it well. Personally I'd ride it occationally.

I clicked on to this thread fully expecting to have to explain to some newbie that he's got a piece of crap. To my pleasant surprise I discover that somewhere, at some period of time, Huffy actually made and sold a quality product.
Going back to the Gran Sport that got me back into riding four years ago (it was a 1964), a lot of this bike looks familiar. I'm going to guess that the CB brake calipers are original while the Mafac levers are later replacements. Did a quick run up to the attic to see my frame, and this one is identical, as is the half step crank. Looking at the levers, I have a feeling that the Benelux front is the original, the Allvit is a later replacement.
If it was mine - given my love for low-end 10-speeds: I'd pull it down, lovingly and carefully clean the frame and all components. Reassemble using the original shift levers, front derailleur and brake calipers. Finding GB levers are not screamingly difficult, although I think you'll spend a few months on eBay coming up with a set (worked for me). Find yourself a Benelux rear derailleur. That alone would be worth it just for the surprise value when you take it out.
Yes, you're going to have more money in it than you could sell it for. However, something this rare (albeit not particularly valuable) would be worth the effort.
There are times when the care of a Masi is worth it on a low end bike. This is definitely one of them. Another example of forgotten base level road bikes that should be saved.

Thanks for all the positive and nice feedback guys. I have been into the geared vintage scene for about a year now and have progressed rather quickly. However, I do not know a whole lot about a bike is this vintage. I really need some cash right now, but selling it would not get me very much, eh? It is also not my size. It's far too short. So let's say I cleaned the heck out of it and put it on Ebay. What would the right buyer pay for something like this? Thanks guys.

I'd be willing to bet that came off the same line (probably Carlton?) as my Gran Sport. It's most definitely a Raleigh.

The major problem with selling that on ebay is the brand name. You could try to narrow down who built it so you could put "Raleigh Built" in the title to generate some traffic.
IMO, and I could be off, I think it's worth at the very least 100.00 even though it's in rough condition.

Hmm how would I go about finding out that? I have researched it a little bit, but I honestly have no clue where to start. I guess I will head over to Sheldon....until then!
