For a long time, I avoided Microsoft because of what they did to Netscape. So I was an Apple guy. But then came the hegemony and inflated costs of the iPhone ecosystem*, and I decided I would prefer an Android phone. I still do. But I don't imagine that Google is my corporate saviour either.

They are corporations. At great personal inconvenience, you can avoid all of them.

*Also, these days apple laptops are like disposable junk. I used to buy one every 4-6 years. now I'm lucky if they last 2.

And what do you know about the moral purity of the other bicycle manufacturers apart from Trek? Say, for example, their employment practices, their contracts with suppliers, domestic and foreign, etc.?

Because my point, if you care, was that you can avoid one corporate bogeyman, but if you are participating in the commercial market for bicycles or bicycle parts, well, you get the idea.... or if you don't, I'll just stop here.

I don’t make any assessment of Trek or any other bike company’s “moral purity,” and in fact think doing such a thing is quite silly. In any case, it’s irrelevant to the assertion that there’s “no great personal inconvenience” in avoiding Trek.

In that case, my original comment wasn't addressed to you and your "fify" was misdirection. Whatver.

I know I'll never buy a PInarello. I could say it's because of Bjarne Riis, but really, it's that they're too expensive

I do as well, I think most of the posters in this thread know your intent. You don't post "Why I will never buy a TREK" and your only message is a video about L.A. that says "the greatest fraud" and zero personal opinion. If you wanted to talk Trek you would have talked Trek and not posted a video about L.A. who is really not related to Trek anymore and has no bearing on any of their current bikes for the past many years.

There is no need to interpret. You posted in a universal language anyone can understand.

You can tell me that I was inarticulate or that you don't think I made my point. Fair enough. But you CAN'T tell me what my intent was. Now I'm going to go have a burger with bacon.

Odd Trek store there. I was in our local Trek brand shop last week and on the stand for a tune up was a Huffy. Was not all that bad of one. Also a BMC waiting to be picked up. This shop was one of three owned locally and sold to Trek when the owner retired.

I can and I did because you made it crystal clear. Again if you wanted to talk about Trek you would have talked about Trek or in your case posted someone else's video about Trek. You on the other hand wanted to talk about L.A. so you posted someone else's video about L.A.. It is OK I am not judging you for it people love to talk about him or can easily talk about him but please stop trying to claim some different intent when everyone here knows the deal. When your mother in law comes with 5 bags fully packed she isn't there to stay for the just the night.

I think you are being sarcastic (which I like!) or needed to read a few of the earlier posts -- I was suggesting (correctly, I think, especially given your post and several others) that 79pmooney was exaggerating or just plain misrepresenting things. Trek company stores will indeed work on other bikes and do indeed get non-Trek (or non-Bontrager) parts.

Yeah I don’t believe that a Trek shop would refuse to service other brands. It would be dumb not to get as many customers as possible into the shop.

But then again I remember some shops here refusing to service Canyon bikes in a futile attempt to disrupt their direct business model. But they soon learnt that it was a really dumb move, guaranteed to lose them all future custom.

Weird Tangent Alert

That still shot of LA above gave me an epiphany. Around that same time, when I was kitted up and sitting outside a cafe, strangers would come up to me and ask if I were Lance.

Never mind that I was 30 pounds lighter, 12 years older, and 200 Watts slower. All we cyclists look alike to non-riders, I guessed.

Comparing two photos in the same year. It must have been the helmet and glasses. Doh!

Unless you can prove otherwise, I think it's safe to assume that you are, in fact, LA.
