Now you're going to have to strap a cylinder of gas on your bike to power the thing. Neat looking. Was is for carbide?

yeah its carbide, the bottom is the tank for the fuel. had a great week for finding parts. i went to a bike swap meet and bought a pair of period correct 1890's pedals. i told the seller a few other things i was missing and gave him my email. he emailed me this morning and has a perfect mate to my one wood grip with cork insert and had a 1890's correct leather saddle. i bought a pair of fork pegs that were original to that time period. now all i have to get is pedals and it will be finished.

I used one for a couple years as my commute light until the part holding the carbide developed a small crack. Gave a pretty nice bright beam and surprisingly the flame was hardly ever blown out by the wind even when riding at 20+ mph. Mine was rather sensitive to rough road surfaces since that would increase the rate at which water dripped onto the carbide and would sometimes result in the flame shooting out about 6". These days I prefer the brighter and steadier illumination provided by batteries and LEDs.
