Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If you want to do a particular corner, practice that corner. Take it at the speed you're comfortable, play with the line, note where there are bumps, gravel, etc. And remember you're a very large guy on a crappy bike.
it’s rough because I live on the steepest hill in Redwood City (maxes out at around 20% grade) and I descend it atleast once a day. One could take the two blind turns at 40-60 mph if they were skilled and insane. I try to go a bit faster every day but it’s not a very effective drill

that is a 40mph turn? even in a car that looks quite sketchy.

Yeah, riding supertuck is clearly a good idea for someone with poor bike handling skills.

Accent on the insane. This is why I never descend OLH - except that time I overheated half way up and had to go back down the way I came - blind corners. Riders have died, including one on Kings, coming around blind corners IN THEIR LANE when cars were coming up and going around cyclists. You see it all the damn time - too many drivers won't wait for a clear section, and they think they're being nice to you giving you a wide berth as you climb, but they clearly can't see around the bend.

You should be turning up your skeptical dial with whatever Larry says.

There's also the issue of the fastest line entering and exiting in the opposite lane.

Any guess what is a reasonable "fast" speed for that turn?

Great read, by the way. If it doesn't make you at least choke up you have no heart.
That’s what they tell in high speed driving classes.

Depends on the car and how much of the road you can use.

For cornering practice, just ride on sidewalks and use the pedestrians as slalom cones. Time yourself, and work to better your time.

Larry, when I want to cut thru 90% of the BS, I look for what Jobst Brandt wrote decades ago. You can find a good cornering intro from him on Sheldon Brown's website.

Looks like it has some bank to it. Does the radius decrease?

Would be fun to get a run on it if you could use the whole road.

you can take it at 40+ Mph if you are skilled enough. People do it. Personally I can’t take it over 25 mph. Bikes can take turns harder than cars
