Change saddle to save 300g?
My Cervelo S2 came with a Fiz:ik Arione that I flat out could not stand. I tried it for 5 rides with numerous angle and position adjustments and decided it was not the one for me. I took the saddle off my trusty touring bike, a Specialized Sonoma with thousands of miles on it and put it on the S2.
Aaaaaaaah, much better! Been riding this way for a little over a year, and I am very happy with the fit, but the Spesh is 540g and a good road saddle is around 225g.
Should I go through the hassle and expense of finding a new, uber-light saddle if I love the ride I have now?

I would... if you can find one that is more comfortable, or as comfortable. That is a pretty big chunk of weight, and new gear is always fun!

Thats alot of weight to shed. If you can find a lighter one that treats your nether regions as well, try it. If not stick with what works. Compfort on the saddle is very important

I can see that I have little to offer you, Turnin, because I ride on hard leather steel-framed saddles. They're comfy. Good luck.

That's hard to say.
I'm not a small guy, and 300g is about what I would eat as a midafternoon snack. I guess it would make more difference if I was a 135 pound hill climbing specialist instead of 200 pounds wondering if my wheels will support me.

if i had a S2 i would hate to add an extra 3/4(maybe closer to 2/3) of a pound to it.

Its funny but you really at odds there - an aero bike like an S2 with a touring saddle weighing way over a pound! If the Arione doesn't fit or feel good, try another.

I have an SMP Plus which is 330 grams. It is the sixth saddle I tried and the only one that solves my numbness problem. I wouldn't mind shedding 100 grams or more but I don't know another saddle with a wide cut out that weighs much less.

If you're 200lbs and found a comfortable saddle you should just stick with it IMHO. 300 grams will do nothing measurable for your performance. Once you lose some weight lighter saddles will be more comfortable so upgrade then.

Comfort above everything IMO. Can't enjoy the ride if your butt ain't happy.

Getting an S2 and putting on a 540 g saddle is like replacing tires on a ZR1 Corvette with all season snow tires

knowing now what i found out how great my saddle works for me I would pay 5 times its price to get it. dont compromise comfort over weight savings when the weight savings can be found around your waist first.
