I'm starting a new bike build, a Lynskey R230, I almost have all the pieces. Waiting for the wheels to be delivered. Post some info and pictures about the dream bike you're building.
* 2011 Lynskey R230 ML
* 2014 Shimano Ultegra 6800
* 2014 Campagnolo Zonda wheels
* 2011? Env 2.0 Fork
Frame in Stand
Mock-up:
KustomCap:
When I get the wheels I'll post a picture of all the pieces and then put it together. A perfect project to be ready for the spring.
Neil.

Build Session 1
Bottom Bracket
- You can still see some copper Finish Line Anti-Seize Assembly Lubricant for Titanium Frames
Crank
- Had to give the Crank an extra push to make it flush with the BB, I wasn't sure how far it had to go, a tight fit.
Pedals
- One of the pieces I could re-use (and the saddle) from my old bike. I might upgrade these, but for now I need to save some $$.
Stem
-I haven't bought spacers yet, my plan is to bring the bike in for a professional fitting, I'll buy the spacers then and have them cut the steerer tube to fit. I am very happy that I bought the torque wrench to ensure I don't over tighten the components - especially the carbon - I can tell now I would have. The only carbon I have on the bike is the fork assembly.

Saddle and Seatpost
- I thought the titanium seatpost was a nice touch, better than black and aluminum just didn't match. The saddle is another re-use from an old bike.

What seat post is that? It looks particularly sharp -- especially the saddle rail clamp. Great looking build.

I'm pretty happy with it too, but I don't know what it is. A 'storeroom' model from the LBS, they have a Russian connection so maybe it came from a defunct USSR missile program!

Build Session 2
Wheels And Tires
- Finally having so many flats is paying off, this is simple.
Cassette
- Do I really need 11?
Brakes
- I realize that I'm just installing the components and will need to wait until the unit is working together to fine tune it all.
Derailleurs
- The Lynskey R230 does not have braze-on's for the front derailleur so I needed an extra piece.
- I try to line up the High and Low settings by eyeballing it.
Chain
- I took about 5 links off.
- I moved the front derailleur out of the path to get the right size and forget to put it back in when I reconnect the chain - clever chap - so I have to break the chain and reinstall. Thankfully this procedure didn't cause too much grief.
Drive Train Test
- Yes! The wheel turns when I turn the pedals. It isn't as smooth as I'd like, seems to be a bit of 'rattle' - maybe chain suck. Not too stressed about it yet. Yes, I turned the front wheel with my hand for dramatic affect, it's not two wheel drive.

It's probably easier to let the shop put it all together for you but I agree - there's nothing quite like riding the bike you put together for yourself.

Nice one. I just built up my own R230 with Record / Sram Red and dura ace wheels back on Thursday. That was the second time I've built it. First time was with old Rival parts and heavy old ass wheels, just to see if I liked the frame enough to go whole hog on it. I did, so I did. It rides so nice. Congrats.

Build Session 3
Connecting and Tuning Brakes and Shifters
I didn't take any pictures today but I did take a masters class in reading and deciphering Shimano manuals. Some pretty detailed stuff. Anyways it's all connected and functioning - somewhat.
To do:
1. Set up in trainer to roughly adjust cockpit - seat, handlebar, brake and gear leavers.
2. Bring it to the LBS for a professional fitting - fine tune cockpit.
3. Cut Steerer tube and install spacers according to fitting.
3. Anti-Seize seat post and shim.
4. Wrap Handlebars.
Wait for the f*@&ing winter to end.

Flyin' under the radar
Maybe it's just me, but I sure as heck wouldn't cut the steerer tube right after a fitting. I would want to get some significant mileage (on the road, not trainer) to verify that my fit is right prior to cutting it. I've had a professional fitting in the past, and ended up making minor changes to refine that fitting later on. Just my two cents.
