Black vs Honey Brooks Flyer--do they bleed color?
I currently have a 3 month old black Brooks B17 on my bike, which I like, except when I ride over a big bump or pothole and don't raise myself off the saddle fast enough, so have decided to try a Brooks Flyer.
I've heard that the black color sometimes runs onto clothing, staining them (I cannot tell, as my summer shorts are dark). Is this true? Does the honey color also do that?
Thanks,
Roberta

I haven't see stains on my black bike shorts, but I did notice the black faded after many years and miles. The honey saddle just darkens over time, with sweat, Proofide, and maybe some dirt ground in there.

I bought a Brooks black saddle new three years ago. It has never bled color once. All different colors of shorts. I'd risk saying as long as you don't go crazy with the proofide or let your saddle get soaked in the rain you have nothing to worry about.

A friend who loves Brooks says he will never buy honey color again, because perspiration stains it brown, leaving a mottled mix of honey and brown.

So, what I'm hearing (I think) is that BOTH honey and black will (might) stain clothing? But only if wet? I've seen the honey saddle changing color over time, but that's not what concerns me--it's the staining of my clothing.
I prefer the black, but not at the cost of my clothes, IF I can help it by getting the honey. I understand nothing is guaranteed.

I can speak for no one but myself, but I can sweat pretty much "down there" : very humid at times here. No color bleed with the three year old black on my end, pun intended

Back in the 70s I had a black B17 that bled a little when it was new.. Now I have a honey B67. No bleeding, and it is darkening to a very nice color.

Any color may stain white clothes, especially, after applying some Proofide. If you ride in the rain, water can get to the saddle and make it easier to transfer the dye to your clothes.

I have a few month old dark brown B17 that bled a little. This was before I applied proofide and it stained some blue cargo pants. It was likely due to me being sweaty.

My black Brooks is very slowly turning brown. As the leather stretches, it seems to be exposing pores with a browner tint. Of course, my black leather grips are almost brown now as well. Supposedly, it's called "patina". The thing is that by the time your saddle does give up a bit of color, you've got it broken in just peachy so you live with it =). I call it "character", lol. I've noticed nothing on my pants some of which are light grey. My gloves on the palms otoh, have needed a lot of washing as the color transferred.

My honey Team Pro S has left some brownish residue on the bottoms of my tweed breeks. I don't think it's the saddle, though, but the Huberd's Shoe Grease I put on it. I'm not concerned.

Here's an update. I purchased a black Flyer and used Obenauf LP on it in August. I rode it in dark shorts, and then twice in pink nylon shorts and got a very light "saddle ring" on the shorts, not where my sits bone hit the saddle, but where my shorts rub the side end/bottom of the saddle and slightly in the back. The ring came out in the wash.
By the way, very comfy saddle. I have it on a more upright bike.

My black saddle hasn't bled onto my jeans yet.
The obenaufs issue you mentioned above was the obenaufs bleeding into your clothing... not the saddle itself.
