Best Computer for Indoor Cycling

Wondering what GPS head units people have found to work indoors on rollers or trainers? I've discovered that my recently purchased XOSS G+ cannot record time/speed/distance for an indoor workout, even when paired with an ANT+/BLE Speed Sensor attached to the rear hub. The design of their firmware requires that a GPS signal be locked into and the bicycle moving to get time and distance (speed will display from the sensor).

I'm guessing Garmin and Wahoo units can handle speed/time/distance from indoor cycling? What have others found to be the case?

Yep Garmin has an Indoor mode and can be paired to smart trainers.

Most of them will do it. Garmin, wahoo, lezyne, bryton, magellan ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
You seem to have bought one of the few that doesn't. Can you just use your phone since you have a BLE speed sensor?

Well I might agree with Garmin and Wahoo, but I don't think the Bryton Rider 15 Neo can do indoor rides either.

Garmin 1000/1030 can also control your smart trainer so you can ‘replay’ any route that you have stored. Not sure about the others.

It can.

which is exactly what you need to do for indoor use. It turns off the GPS and uses the speed sensor to track mileage.

If that is your experience using the Bryton Ride 15 Neo, that's great. With my XOSS, I too can turn off the GPS, but if I do even with an ANT+/BLE speed sensor your speed will be incorrect and the head unit will not show time or distance.

So, unfortunately, not all GPS units will work indoors without GPS.

Actually Canker you referenced instructions for the Rider 15, whereas the Rider 15 Neo does not have similar instructions and may not allow shutting off the GPS.

I guess this is my point, among the different companies and even among models within a company, some can record indoor cycling, some cannot.

If it has not been suggested then I'd try a smartphone if you have one. There are plenty of free ones out there that will do what you want. I use Cyclemeter.

Thanks, but I am really trying to narrow down which handlebar GPS units have the capability.

Using Garmin 1030 and it works awesome Zwifting! No issues for any data here.

Edge 530 is good to go, but I expect all of their current range would work fine.

Does it also simulate the grade on your recorded route and control the trainer for this? I'm totally clueless when it comes to indoor training tools outside of Zwift or Rouvy

Yes it does. That's exactly what "replaying" a course means. Otherwise it would be a pointless exercise i.e. replaying only distance

1) Ride the route IRL
2) from the ride create a Course
3) Connect your Garmin to your smart trainer.
4) choose the Course and then ‘start’
5) The trainer will change the resistance based on the gradient information in the corse file. You can race against your previous best just like regular Courses outside.
