Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oh the ups and downs in life... My Sportage has 44,000 miles on it now. And I just ordered the parts to replace the front rotors and pads. Rock auto finally stocks them! Been waiting a year for this day to come.
Now, I can't find a procedure to follow for the electronic garbage that is incorporated into the brake system. I can't find any information on the brake job at all. I just want to throw stuff and break thing at the moment, maybe some colorful swearing too. 🤬 FML!

Service information should be available on-line. Mitchell, Motor, or even factory sites. They won't be free, however. Check YouTube for free videos.
You could sneak into a Kia dealer and ask one of the techs, or find an independent Kia shop and ply them for info.

I would think many modern brakes jobs can be done the same as before the "electronic garbage" but some do require the use of a scan tool.

I have an update on folding chair Tom. He’s 80, older than I thought, and he’s in a full body brace. I picture it as an iron lung type thing, but I’m sure that is incorrect. He is in pain, and unable to visit his rooftop garden. And he has lost his will to go on

Going to a funeral for a riding friend of 30+ years. He got an esophageal cancer diagnosis about 7 months ago and it had already spread to his spine and brain before they found it. It's amazing how life turns in a split second.

Not trying to be a downer. He had an excellent career, good family and many years on the bike. I'll definitely be doing a personal memorial ride for him later after the funeral.

I got the feeling he had intentionally not really locked the rear wheel into the trainer, like maybe he had something in mind like getting the wheel spinning really fast then drop out of the trainer then go shooting forward, but of course without the wheel locked in he didn't have lateral support and the whole thing fell out.

we’re also in the process of buying a new place and at least good bike parking and charging wouldn’t be a criteria anymore.
Mrs. Dan developed a condition where she would go into tachycardia. Local cardiologist ran a tilt test, announced that her issues were neurological, and in classic M. Deity form walked away with nothing more to say.

Turned out that was a good thing. She was referred to The World Famous Mayo Clinic. Spent a week there. More pokes in a week than I could imagine, but they came up with a treatment plan that included more time riding the tandem.

Not likely that your problem is the same as hers, but the process is driven by test results. We have a Medicare Advantage plan and they paid for the overwhelming amount of the cost. Plus, we had a one week vacation in Rochester MN, which turned out to be a nice town.

can ride next to and under the trains in the Cuyahoga Valley in OH ; some take their bikes on the train and then ride back to their origin

Last night, I saw that "Innsbruck" was up on the Guest World rotation in Zwift, and that's always fun. So I did the usual 3mile/10 minute warmup and spindown calibration in Watopia, then headed over to Innsbruck. There's a KOM, 4.6 miles with an average gradient of 5.4%. I decided to aim for an average power of about 250-260, which is about FTP, so it should be sustainable, and indeed my average power worked out to 241w for the 31 minutes it took - enough to leave me gassed, but not enough to leave me puking. Then there's a long descent, and the ride through town, with the "Leg Snapper", which is a about a quarter of a mile at a pretty steady 7%, which I did standing up, but not going crazy and then the downhill and a mostly flat ride to the finish. As I closed in on the line, I saw that I was heading for a time minutes faster than the then-current #1 time, so I kept on pushing to the line (though, really, I could have totally dogged it and still taken 1st!), and sure enough, I had the fastest time on that route! I don't know how long times stay up after you finish, and of course, I didn't know how long it would be before someone else came in with a shorter time, but for at least a minute or so, I had the fastest time!!!

yeah I called 2 dealerships and they told me basically unless I brought them the car for service they wouldn't tell me.(pricks) Nothing on you tube. I might ask around town, see if I can get a indi shop to install for me. Or just swap in the new rotors rough up the pads and let 'er buck!

Sorry, I hope it doesn't come to that drastic outcome.

Have you read The Haywire Heart? It covers many elite athletes dealing with heart issues, mostly arrhythmias. If anything, it might be good to read that you're not the only one going through this. It's co-written by cyclist Lennard Zinn.

I read this when I was having some heart issues, and it was reassuring to me.

Well done!

I don't know if I'll ever see 60 again. I dropped down to 56 over the holidays, and I'm barely back up to 58 now.

Estimate from HRV4Training.web.app

This estimate gets weird when I do lots of indoor rides, where my heart rate is about 10 beats higher.

seeds wins the morning. I'd rather be spending the day in a pool in a tropical paradise than freezing in a snowscape. It was a close run thing though.

Rainy day, and still in pain from pulling my back last week, so decided to put in a new fishbowl. Just started the filter so it needs some time to clear up.

My buddy and I rode mountain bikes for a few hours in North Carolina today. Just shy of 20 miles.

It was a good time, even though my bike handling and fitness was garbage. It’s always so nice to spend a morning in the woods.

Back home from my 24 hour holiday, and week with the fam. My health is good again, and I might be able to get in a ride tomorrow afternoon. We have gardeners in the morning.

Did an easy ride this morning to get me back in the green. I’ve been on the edge all week, not to toot my own horn, but did a good job balancing my fatigue.

Tomorrow I have to leave for work, but can still get a ride in before. Plan is to do the 15 min zone 5 intervals again. I really would prefer to do this outside, but they are calling for hardcore rain. I have the workout built into zwift so if need be then i’ll do it on the trainer.
