What's up with this colnago on Ebay?

Can't seem to work out why no one seems to want to bid on this colnago. Doesn't look right somewhere, just wanted some opinions.

No bids on any of his lots yet, don't know if it's the starting price or shipping fee that's putting people off, or if they are waiting until the last moment.

The frame looks as though it's been well used and the components are a bit of a mix but could be a good starting point for a restoration project?

Looks like a Master Piu. It does look well worn but it would make a good resto project. I think it needs another re-paint and a more more appropriate set of decals fitted. The components need to be sorted out as well.

These Colnago frames do ride very well and I think it would be a good buy at that price. There is a bit of work to do and more money to be spent.

Starting bid is $550 w/ shipping. I wouldnt touch that bike for $550.

1. Cobbled headset. Miche w/ a Campy top nut.
2. Rusty stem
3. Dirty bar tape and dirty ugly seat
4. Beat up STI levers.
5. No brake calipers
6. Rear wheel has a Veloce hub. Not compatible with DA ST levers
7. DA crankset pre-dates DA STI levers by a few years. What model DA derailleurs does it have? Are they compatible.
8. No pedals.

Well used bike. Well used parts, of a weird variety, and way too high of a shipping price. plus the bike just does not look well cared for.

It is in Italy. No sense in paying the shipping cost to get it here when you might find a "mini storage-fresh" Colnago for about the same price on this side of the pond.

Thanks for the responses. I was also wondering why there was no colnago clubs logo at the bottom bracket. Also, that fork looks kind of off.

The absence of a BB club cutout doesn't mean squat in this case, IMO.

It just looks like a lot of money to then have to throw $800 at.

In the future, all ebay bidding will take place with 15 seconds left. You have to be naive to bid before that.

What is up with the bottom bracket? It looks corroded to death and back. Why do cables go thru it?

The fork looks bent to me, too.

Yes. Straight-blade forks which exit forward, immidiately out of the fork crown sockets. The crown design is angled forward to facilitate this.

This may be the case, but it still looks weird to the uninitiated. Might have something to do with no bids.

True, but I would expect someone familiar with or seeking such a Colnago (or any other similar, more modern lugged lightweight) to be familar with the design.

Case in point, the following Terraferma track:

So I ended up contacting the seller and he's selling it to me for $390 which includes the shipping. Now, I just need to work out what I bought exactly, so I can hopefully restore it and put it into better shape. can anyone help? Thanks in Advance

This is the link he had for further pictures:

As noted earlier its going to need alot of work. Assuming the STI levers work you'll need:

Pedals: Whatever you like
Brake calipers: Shimano DA 7403's are ~$40
Bar tape: $10
Seat: Your choice...

Sorry, I should be clearer, I meant what type of frame the bike is. I've heard the Colnago line is extensive, and this frame was repainted so I wandering if anyone knew just from the pics

Jimbossa, you got a great deal! Sorry I can't help with the frame ID although to me it looks like the real thing but if it's your size it'll be an awesome ride at that price.

It's a superb base for a restoration project and it's your decision what you want to put on it - whether to go for period correct, a modern groupset or your own choice of pick n' mix components.

My own resto's normally start as a bare frame that needs repainting and then a sort through my garage to see what left over bits I've got that will fit, followed by a scavenge from other bikes and weeks of bidding on e-bay for parts either to complete the resto or to replace parts taken from other bikes. But it's FUN, very satisfying and keeps me out of trouble!

You've got a lot more to start with and even if you want to change parts you can probably trade off the parts you are displacing to keep the cost down. Congratulations and good luck! Please post pictures of your build and the finished bike. I'm sure my more learned colleagues will be able to help you 'name the frame' - try posting the serial number when you get the frame.

Hi Jimbossa,

The more I look at the photos the more I think I'm right in labeling the frame a Master Piu. I still think it's the basis of a good bike build project and at $390 - what a good buy.

It looks like the frame might clean-up ok if you don't want to re-paint it.

As for the components - Shimano is a good, practical and cheap option but I couldn't go past campagnolo - even if it meant a longer re-build time.
