I notice the writer linked every item to a page where I can buy it...therefore, I doubt the veracity of the claim that no one should wear them. Besides, if cycling isn't fun, what is the point?

Wow, am I sorry I clicked on that. One of those supposedly funny pieces of snark that just demonstrates how unclever the writer is by denegrating other people's better jokes. On what planet is telling people to douse a stranger in lighter fluid and ignite them supposed to be funny?

Lame. Although I must confess that, as a novelty item, the Speed Racer one is sort of cool. But I would never wear it.
I saw this guy in the team's faux denim shorts when I went to the '95 Giro.

You sir, are correct. They had just come off the Col de Sampeyer and were starting the climb up the massive Col d'Angel to France. They were then supposed to do the Col d'Izoard and finish in Briancon. Unfortunately, there had been a meter of snow at the summit the night before and then an avalanche blocked the road. They had to shorten the stage before the border.
Pantani sat out that year after being injured during training. Rehabbing for the TdF. However....While a group of us were riding to the stage finish at the Bianchi factor in Treviglio he came spinning along in the other direction wearing his team kit, complete with the faux jeans shorts. No missing those ears. It was quite a thrill.

I think someone gave me a flannel shirt one a long time ago. I would probably only wear it if I could get some denim pattern shorts (or bibs) to go with it. Not really my thing, but maybe for a halloween ride.

Team Castorama or sump'n like that had bibs and jerseys that looked like coveralls. Laurent Fignon was on that team. Oh... and don't forget about the crazy Zebra striped duds that Super Mario's team wore!
I was riding on Veteran's Day and this rider got out of his car decked in Captain America livery. It was all medium blue shorts and jersey with white stars everywhere. That's why it looked like Cap'n America to me.

As a matter of decency I don’t do Lycra, but I’m tempted to make the effort to find myself one of those Speed Racer jerseys. Even cooler would be Chim Chim.

Is this jersey OK, possibly for:
a pub hopping session,
business casual meeting (not far from the urban trail),
a long ride that includes a final stop at the market before home,
bicycle events without a ride,
any ride with knickers,
vintage rides where the old wool jersey is too saggy/holey.
Polo jersey? Patriotic? Viva la France? Who cares. 2 large rear buttoned pockets. Very affordable.
