I plan to put as many miles as I possibly can.
That's crazy awesome. Earlier in this thread people talked about how it was so nuts that someone would pay $1000 and upward for these. A complete Surly Crosscheck is about that. Love crosschecks, but which would you take if offered both? Anyway, your new bike is probably the coolest new bike in the world today.

Well, for me, the story of this particular bike and a small mom-n-pop bike shop serving a relatively small coastal community could stand on its own - but theres so much more. The bike shop owner actually once enjoyed a lucrative position working for a major brand corporation. For reasons unknown to me, he said good bye to said job and bought a small bike shop. He then hired a well known, local bike mechanic that from all accounts, was the reason for many years of success for this small bike shop.
As the adage goes, all good things must end. Of course theres lots more, but then, I'd like to think I bought that story - LOL.

Fastfoward to me, well I've been seeking a 93 Bridgestone XO-1 for a very looooog time, hardly unique, I know. Checking eBay and CL on a bi-weekly basis, sometimes more, and it's not as if I don't have good bikes. I own, and compete on several hi-end cyclocross, road and gravel bikes. Ah, but theres just something about thie 93 XO-1 that I love. I've ridden a few, even owned an XO-2 and my love for these bikes never went away. So when i saw this bike on CL I contacted the seller and shared my quest for this bike. He told me his father owned a bike shop and decided not to sell this bike - so he packed it away.

The son gave me a sweet deal on this bike because it wasn't about getting the highest dollar. Because I have no doubt had he listed it on eBay it might have reached $3K, or more. But I'll never know for sure because this bike waited 27 years for me and I'm gonna pedal this as far as I can, for as long as I can.

That is a cool story. Perhaps I should expand my CL searches to include San Diego, even if it's a 3 hour drive. Enjoy!
