bike wing sail
I watched a video of a man in France with a sale board like wing mounted on his bike. He was able to sail up and down the beach in the wind trying to find one for myself

This sounds like a real challenge to controlling the bike. Rear only wind might be OK but stopping and starting could be as challenging as getting on a tandem for the firs time.

Edit: The secret to speed is crosswinds. When I used a Zzipper fairing in my midwest days every once in a while I got to do long stretches with crosswind. I'd lean the bike into the wind and use the fairing like a sail. OMG fast! Much faster than going downwind. (Think glider vs parachute.)

Yes, if you are an aerodynamic drag. But it's a whole different world for shapes that create aerodynamic lift. Think sailboat. When pointed roughly 45 degrees away from dead upwind, they sail along quite nicely in this (bicycling world) headwind instead of drifting backwards.
