Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

MUP Diaries.....typo fixed

Ok I admit I don't ride on the MUP very often, but I just wanted to cruise today since I'm getting over an illness that knocked my off the bike for a few weeks, so I'd thought I visit the local MUP for a shortish ride.

I started this thread with the intent that others will add to the weirdness seen on your local MUP trails...

Advice to the old guy who was riding with his wife at about 14-15mph when I passed them going maybe 19-20 ? I'm not racing anyone.. I'm riding on the hoods minding my own business while you drop your wife..pass me going 20-21mpg and continue to "race" me for a couple miles before you finally decide maybe you should wait for your wife again. Dude you are stupid. That is all.

So are you. I think you meant "diaries" instead of "dairies."

Well, if we're talking dairies we have an old orange packing plant next to our MUP. Sunkist's very first. It appears to be turn of the last century vintage and now they make "wood" products there. The MUP is the old rail line that used to ship those oranges all over the good ol' US of A.

Classic and well done.
Here comes the avalanche of MUP put downs.
I ride a lot on the local MUP which is long closed road and ridden by racers to oldsters.
Its all out there...every permutation of humanity. Met a ton of great people and a handful of real jerks. Kind of like society.

please post this to the parks and recreation forum where it belongs. if you're going 20mph on a MUP, you're doing it wrong.

Not so. MUP's are not created equal. On the MUP I ride, A groups paceline at 23-25 mph. Its called a trail but is as wide as a city street.

My wife was riding the San Diego Creek trail in Irvine, CA last weekend. Got run off the path by a large group of road cyclists all kitted out and spooled up, riding 4 abreast, yelling ahead to everyone to get out of their way. Really, what's the point of this, to terrify parents, little kids, dog walkers, joggers, etc.?

I always win the race on the MUP because ours are full of tight turns and I corner better.

it stinks riding past dairies. once i rode past one and the slurry of cow poo running across the country lane was awful. my wheel threw some up on my legs.
