Wheelset w/ Shimano 600 hubs FH-6400 & HB-6400

Hi,

I am considering bying a wheelset with Wolber rims (apparently from France) laced to Shimano 600 hubs FH-6400 & HB-6400. (no idea about the spokes)
Unfortunately i have no idea about how much would be reasonable to pay. Can you fellas give me an idea of their worth?
thanks loads!
P!

Wheels like that are usually just given away. If you are getting them from a friend, offer a 6 pack of something good. If buying from a flipper, $25 would be generous.

Good hubs, though. No rare cogs needed.

Yea, i am mostly in it for the hubs. What's "no rare cogs" entail?

Larger cogs ie bigger than 28t and some odd size cogs like 27t and 13t are a bit hard to find these. As for value I would go a bit higher at $70 or so for the set all in scewer's, cassette and tires rubes if there in the mix.

The rear hub is actually an HB-6401, meaning it takes plain-jane 7-speed Hyperglide cassettes. The 6400 was Uniglide-only, requiring a threaded-on smallest cog, and the contemporary Dura-Ace rear hub not only needed a threaded-on smallest cog, but one that was a smaller diameter.

In my local market, a late '80s-early '90s 700c wheelset like this in good shape that is all matching (rims and hubs with skewers) is worth over $100.

Met the seller today, he wanted 160 € for it. The wheels looked decent (tubes, skewers and tyres were included) - Declined it.

Bummer he didn't tell you the price before you wasted your time.

All IN this is a fair price add in a freewheel or good cassette and you have pretty good very good if the tires are nice and look good,

Very high price for here. But every market is different. And price is British pounds not dollars. Thats slightly over $200 US. Also, I find a LOT of worn cones on Shimano wheels. Went through a stack just to find one set of good cones.

Used wheels at the right price can be a great deal as you can sometimes get a good cassette, good tires and tubes, and skewers all included.

+10 To below. Several times, when faced with a too high price, I've left the seller my contact information. And occasionally they have called back later after learning that no one was going to pay their asking price. Other times, they find someone who will pay. In that case, no problem, I move on. Wheels are plentiful, best to never fall in love with a set!

I doubt anyone will be breaking this person's door down to buy them at that price. Perhaps, if you can wait, they will lower the price when they see it is unrealistic.

What I've done in the past is left the seller my contact info and ask them to contact me if they reconsider my offer. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I think they were too high, around my neck of the woods that's a $75.00 USD set.

75 USD seems bafflingly low to me, considering that it comes with tubes, basically new tyres, the skewer and a really lightweight wheelset. 110 € seems quite appropriate.

Every market is different. I see folks asking for more and they languish on Craigslist for eons. I could be low on my estimate, but I don't think by that much. When it comes to used tires and tubes, I don't give them much value unless I'm selling them!
