The summer is getting closer to arriving here in the still rainy PacNorthwest and that means group rides of all kinds, all over the Cascadia region.
I have an '06 Ford Taurus and although I could breakdown my Pinarello and stuff it in the backseat, that just seems silly and unprofessional. If you have a car, how do you transport your C&V bike(s)? Roof mounted or trailer hitch? What brand? How has it worked for you? Would you do anything different?
Sound off with your thoughts!

I'm going to be getting a trailer hitch after my wife gets her next car...but right now I just break it down and toss it in. Unprofessional? Who cares...it fits fine.

I have used trunk racks (Allen 103A) and both Thule and La Pre Alpina (remember those?) roof racks and inside my van. on top is my favorite, it is easy to lock and out of harms way unless you roll over
OH much to my dismay, these two bikes spent a 3day weekend in a tow yard after a bad accident. I was worried to death over them but between being inside the van and 10ft fence I assume no one even saw them.

"unprofessional"? Are you a sponsored Pro Rider on a C&V bike.... nope. Throw it in the trunk, put it on the rack on the front of the bus, or buy a "universal" bike rack for $80 if it makes you feel more "pro"..
I bought a Universal Rack two years ago because my bike wouldn't fit in the trunk and so far it has literally been universal. I have put it on a Malibu, Jeep Liberty, Honda Civic, and a Mustang with no problems.

07 Ford Fusion here, the rear seats fold down exposing the trunk space. More than enough room to fit my bike. I also recently bought a Thule trunk rack to haul the mtn bikes for my son and I.

Bianchigirll... No mini-vans. No full size vans. No trucks, no SUV's, no station wagon's. A car. That's what I'm looking for here.

Bought a used Yakima Q-Tower system since we got the tandem. Of course had to buy new tower clips and a tandem rack, but that is the only way we can transport the tandem. Used system came with two regular carriers but I am reluctant to hang my bikes out in the breeze, so whatever I am riding goes in the trunk.

I've put the Atala on a Hollywood rack from Freecycle on a couple of occasions. The padding on the rack reacts chemically with the lacquer, which I'm very much not a fan of. I might try covering the padding with cheap cotton bar tape...
I try to break it down and toss it into the back seat whenever possible. It just barely fails to fit in the trunk.

I have an '03 suzuki hatchback, it's pretty much the same size as a toyota matrix but maybe a little taller. For the classic rendezvous weekend, I got 3 complete bikes plus a frame and fork all in the rear area. None were touching each other but I did go around corners pretty carefully!

I do agree with your original post, I had a 03 Taurus and it was PIA to take it in and out. you can always get a hitch mount it you don't want a trunk rack

In the back set. It never rains back there and I've never had a bird poop on one yet

The wife and I each drive Mazda 5s. If it is me by myself then seats down and in it goes. But if I have others and people riding in the back seats, then there is a hitch on each 5. I have a Hollywood Sportrider 3 that rotates between the 5s.

I have a Dodge Grand Caravan for a work vehicle. Stow go/fold flat seating. I always have one side flat and just roll the bike in. Works great and the kids just have to deal with navigating around handle bars when they're riding with me.

With this:
Thule rack system with a three-bike limit. Can't fit a bike in the trunk with the shock tower brace in place.
Besides hauling bikes, it hauls a**, too.
