Looks almost just like the men's version of the 1986 World Sport I found last week...could be wrong though...

Actually its probably the Prelude, the Suntour DR's give it away... check this link out... https://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1...986Ltwt30.html

I was leaning towards that as the Le Tour came with Huret. But the Prelude came with 2 sets of bottle bosses. This has one.

I think the Alpha 5000 RD is a replacement. the other parts, fric shift, nonaero hoods make the bike look older. not a bad looking bike though.

That Schwinn Chicago headbadge only means their headquarters was in Chicago at that time. It does not mean bike was built in Chicago. Based on code on headbadge, it was built on the 162nd day of 1987 (or 1977, but bike does not look that old). Chicago plant closed in early 1983.
LeTour or Traveler would be my guess.

If it is a 1987 LeTour or Traveler, both were made in Greenville, MS.
Note somewhat misleading headbadge on the LeTour below. Sellers commonly call these "Chicago made" bikes even though Chicago plant had been closed several YEARS prior.
Bike looks a lot like this LeTour: https://velospace.org/node/14740

I thought only Japan built and Paramount wore round head badges.
I've never seen a Le tour with DT shifter braze on lugs..only clamp on's.
The drop out's negate any World Sport's I believe.
My guess is a Japan built Traveler but again the DT shifter lugs throw me

Round head badges were common on the better Schwinn lightweights of a given era. My 1960 Continental has one, 1964 Sierra has one, all 5 of my SSs have them (1966 to 1973), my 1972 Sports Tourer has one, and so on. Roger

I tossed some tires on it and rode it down the street and back. I love the color combo.

I had a 1987 Prelude, this bike does not look like it.

My opinion is that it is a LeTour or Super LeTour.

This is a toughy because it has been repainted... and frankened more than a bit (including the head badge; not original to this bike - that is a 1987 badge and this bike is not an '87).
if you look at:
-27 inch wheels
-pump peg on the headtube * and that is a biggy as far as IDing a Schwinn goes
-just a single set of cage bosses on the down tube
In some ways it might look like an 1987 Voyager (https://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1...0/1987_13.html)
but, I suspect that it is not, unless someone really filed those seat tube bosses and fork bosses really well...
Hard to tell at this point. A couple of things might help: seat post size and bike weight
My gut feeling says that it is not a Schwinn

87 Voyaguer had two sets of bottle bosses. The OP bike only has one set. 1987 Voyageur also had front rack braze ons.

87 traveler is my vote. It came with the black stem ,same crankset, rd and 1 set of bottle braze ons. I know some would not like that color scheme so it may explain the repaint.

+1 Good catch, no pump peg on head tube on the Traveler and LeTours. With all of the decals gone, and the probability that the head badge is not original either, the bike could be anything.
