Hey all I just got this Sekai 2500 GT from the original owner, has been sitting for 30 years in storage. After a good clean it looks very spiffy now. Got it for 175 bucks, I think it was a fair price, plus he was not budging on the price.

I feel like I could sell this for 400 or so after freshening her up. What do you guys think?

That is a beautiful bike. You can purchase reproduction brake hoods for most brands. The foam bar tubes have mostly gone out of style. Personally I like leather toestraps, but perhaps those are going out of style.

I rarely see "Tange High Tensile Double Butted" in a single sentence.

I can't tell if that was designed as a touring bike. How do the front lowrider racks attach? Ahhh, I see it is some kind of U-Bolt.

I think that bike was probably positioned as a mid range value when new.

$175 was probably a good price.

$400 would be ambitious, but you might get that if you carefully disassembled every bearing, and greased, and really made the bike like new. New, quality tires?

High ten steel frame bikes do not go anywhere near $400. Very attractive bike, ride it and enjoy it!

$175 is reasonable for this bike as is but agree with the others that it is not worth $400 to someone else.

Thanks guys for the responses! I agree that 400 is a bit steep, was curious if the "vintage" aspect placed it higher, unless someone really wanted this bike.

I took her out on my commute and put 16 miles on. The front pannier bags helped a lot. Definitely not the fastest but felt good shifting and riding!

Going to remove the foam padding on the bars and replace with some tape, maybe white to make it pop but I get white tape really dirty really fast.

It's my chill cruiser for now ! May pass it on to a family member later on.

"Vintage" is complex. That bike is better than the average Huffy. But, the most sought after bikes are the vintage racing bikes, or in some cases, the high quality vintage touring bikes.

That bike is placed very much in the middle with a lot of aspects. I didn't realize companies were doing double butted high tensile steel.

The racks are nice, but the bike has a paucity of rack attachment points, and not even water bottle cage mounts.

There is an obvious evolution of bike design, but by the late 70's and early 80's, there should have been full touring bikes available, with plenty of mount points, and even canti brakes.

That's a good approach. Ride it for fun and then pass it on. To me, what you paid for it is close enough to the high end of resale that it is one that should just be enjoyed.

I live up here in Alaska and the bike market is all over the place, people are posting bikes for sale that are priced ridiculously in my opinion, and they never sell due to being to high. Resale is not as good as it was during covid times. To me it was the front pannier bags that sold me, love the retro look.
