Great price for the best way to mix traditional looks and feel, easy setup and maintenance, and modern range and performance. Thanks.

May have to get that. I have a nice wheelset with 6600 hubs. Thinking about getting a 6600 group minus sti's for my '88 LeMans. Already have some Tektro brake levers.

That's a great price on those. FYI, Chain Reaction Cycles in the UK has the 9-speed SL7700 shifters in stock for $66.99 - I just bought a set. Also if you spend $99 at Chain Reaction, you get free shipping to the U.S so I also bought a couple of well priced tires and tubes to put my order up to $100 for the free shipping.

Naive question -- it says "indexed only." Is the left side indexed, as well, or friction, or at least trimmable?

I have those. Nice shifters. True, the left/front shifter starts roughly 25 deg up from parallel with the down tube. The point is to make it easier to grab. Also, it's not strictly a friction shifter. It is retro friction and has a reverse spring in it for very light action.
The right RD side feels a little clunky at first, but smooths out after a little use.

If I were smart, I'd probably lay in a pair or two for future growth. But 7-speed seems to be covering my needs for now.

Thanks for the link. I have a pair with some missing pieces for the Mercian build so I ordered.
They are beautiful components.

Hunh. 9 speed DA dt's should have a friction/index mode indicator on the right side. Typically, ones with D rings do, ones with screw heads only do not. Mine do.
Early ten speed DA dt's had a friction mode, believe they were 7800. Later ones (7850? 7900?) are index only on the right side.

I can confirm that my SL7900 shifters are index only on the right side but non-indexed on the left.
BTW, if anyone missed out on the Jenson USA deal (it now says "usually ships in 2-3 weeks), Universal Cycles sells these for $63 as their regular price. Also, you can get 8-speed indexed downtube shifters there for $38.

Mine are just the opposite. The 7sp 600 front shifter is spring loaded and does not sit parallel to the down tube, whereas, the 7sp 105 does.

I have a set of these that I bought one or two years ago for $70. Money well spent. Liked them because the 7400's Ice Grey was so hard to pair with bikes, color-wise, not to mention they had Ice Grey parts here and high polish parts over there and the component 'matching' didn't work within the groupset. These are running on my Masi and the spring assist makes for wonderfully light front shifts, not to mention they look beautiful. The index-only RD shifting feels lighter than before. It also happens to sound and feel just like 7400 shifters. 6400 and below are more supple feeling and much quieter (I like that).

Question for anyone who has these. My Trek 560 has DA 9 speed shifters. I want to replace the cassette with a 6500 12-27 and someone on ebay has a bunch of NOS ones for $60. Now I already have a almost new 6700 10 speed cassette, so I could get these shifters instead and convert to 10 speed for the same price.
As you can see in the pic, when I shift into the big cog the shifter is way back, parallel to the ground. Not a big deal but it kind of feels weird and bugs me. Does the 10 speed shifter start pointing down in the big cog?
BTW these shifters are awesome. Nice loud, firm clicks.

I swapped on my 6600 wheelset and bought some tektro calipers for the levers I already had. Swapped in a stem and saddle I had as well. Have less than $175 in it, not including the parts I already had. Still waiting on some yellow Newbaums cotton tape I ordered.
