Recumbent seat mesh got a hole during shipping

I ordered a Rans tailwind recumbent bike off ebay and received this week. Noticed that the wheel axle damaged the backseat mesh about a quarter size. Is this something to worry about? Will it eventually damage the whole mesh back?

I doubt it. I cut holes in our seat backs on our Rans Screamer 13 years ago to accommodate the water bottle cages. 8 holes in the fabric and they haven't stretched or spread over all the years. A call in to Rans to ask for a possible fix can't hurt. I have found the company to be very helpful. Mike

If it was my seat I'd use my soldering gun to melt the plastic around the hole to keep it from unraveling further.

Holes in the seatback mesh are pretty common on RANS standard seat back mesh. Older ones, anyway. We recently bit the bullet and replaced the seatback mesh on both our Screamer seats with new ones from RANS. The mesh seems much more rugged/durable. More like the mesh on the SlingMesh seats.
That said, it is quite possible to ride with holes in the seatback mesh. Usually not a problem.
Holes can be patched, with varying results, with adhesive tent repair patches, duct tape, adhesive/cloth, etc.
Holes made for water bottle cage attachment, easily made with a soldering iron, should be in the sturdy nylon fabric on the sides and are not a problem.
(My first recumbent was a 2000 Tailwind, purchased in 2006. Fun bike.)

You might want to search for previous threads on this topic at bentrideronline.com . https://www.google.com/search?q=RANS...utf-8&oe=utf-8. (Google works better than the BROL search tool.)

I've gone through two seat meshes on my V-Rex. The last time, I had my sister use the old one as a pattern and make a new one out of Pet-Pruf(tm) poly screen material, which I got from the local big-box hardware store. It has worked wonderfully and still looks like new 11 years later.

More immediately, I'd just melt the edges of the hole to keep it from fraying.

Thank you all very much! I will first melt the area for now and probably try to patch with something later.

I'm sure all those ideas work, but when I have a mesh issue I just sew a little patch with black heavy-duty thread.
