It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". Cyclocross bicycle recommendation.

Can good people recommend me a good cyclocross bicycle for aroud $2-2.5K? I am 5' 7.5" tall if that helps. That one that can withstand rough roads and also can go fast?

I am thinking about Giant TCX Advanced Pro 2 what do you think?

Seems Trek Crockett 7 is sold out.

Thanks!

Is it strictly for cyclocross races or do you plan to use it for commuting, road biking, off-road biking or touring as well?

Giant TCX series is a good choice. Here are some others:

Jamis Renegade series
Niner RLT series (available in aluminum, steel or carbon)
Specialized Sequoia
Specialized Diverge
Salsa Vaya
Salsa Warbird

All good choices, it all depends on what you are looking for.

I recently bought the Giant TCX Advanced Pro 2, and like it a lot. I think it was quite good value (especially as it was reduced by AU$650 from it's list price) for the package and it was one of lightest CX bikes I looked at (8.3kg without pedals).

A couple of observations:

1) The geometry is more race oriented than other bikes I have ridden (which isn't very many admittedly!), and compared to my Trek Crossrip Elite, it is noticeably twitchier in steering - but nothing that can't be mastered.

2) The bottom bracket is quite high (65mm drop IIRC?), and I it's a stretch touch the ground with my extended foot when coming to a stop. I initially had my saddle way too low until I compared it to the Trek and worked out my optimal seat height.

3) I found the handlebar drop to be too aggressive for my casual level of riding / commuting, so I flipped the stem.

4) The Schwalbe X-One tires feel pretty sluggish on the road, so I swapped these for Schwalbe Marathon Supremes - less grip off-road, but better for most of my riding.

I did initially think I would get into CX racing, but this seems be hard to do where I live, or I haven't found many interested people!

I would probably go for a more "gravel-bike" geometry if I were doing this again, with a lower bottom bracket and longer trail, but would go for carbon fibre again because most of my riding in on pavement and a lighter bike makes it more flexible as dual purpose road/gravel bike in my opinion.

I would suggest riding as many bikes as you can before making your choice! Not always easy, but take your time with this decision....

John

[Edit: my shortlist for an n+1 would include:

Jamis Renegade Elite
Niner RTL 9
Salsa Warbird
GT Grade Carbon

However, all of this are quite a lot more expensive than my Giant TCX, so won't be happening any time soon.... ]

Pretty much what I use a BD Ti Fantom for.

Have 10K miles on it now with multiple upgrades, but with what the initial purchase price is, there's lots of room for that.

With these prices I think I will try to assemble the bike myself!

Do companies make titanium group-sets or is it separate?

Why the fixation on cx bikes? The list given below is much more apt for you want to do.

I have a 2015 Ridley X-Night Disc 30 size 50cm MSRP $4500 that I'm seeing for $2000. Full carbon, CX race machine, full Ultagra, very nice Belgian technology. It has about 300 miles on it. PM if interested.
