Good afternoon.

I am new in the forum. I decide few weeks a go that is time to lose some weight and get in shape again. I am 5' 11" and 218 pounds. Looking to buy a new bike, reading here and there i decide i want a road bike since most of the time i will be riding over the street, sidewalks. I like the MTB as well but...

After test few Specialized, Trekk and the Giant i decide go for the Giant FastRoad SLR 1 (2018)
I love this bike. Is very fast, light, very nice looking and i guess good stuff for the $$

I already changed the saddle for something with more comfort because i am heavy. I also put a new headlight, tail light and the bottle holder. I am supper happy with this light. Look the pictures.

Very impressive headlight. I only ride in the daylight so I was surprised how bright and how far it throws the light.

Unless you just go on short rides, you're going to regret that comfort saddle. They don't support your sitbones and end up putting pressure on your, ahem, sensitive parts. That's why most saddles are harder.

The original poster is a beginner and self described as "heavy."

Likely that saddle will be perfect for the first several month, as the OP's legs and core won't be up to the job of holding him/her in the proper position, so s/he will sit on the saddler a lot.

Further on down the road ...

For someone riding as much as you ride what you say is perfectly true. For the OP, starting tooling along sidewalks to help weight loss ....

Congrats on your new ride! I've been feeling the glow myself from a new one and it is a good feeling.

I started up again with a comfort seat for my around-town bike, then rode on a B-17. I later took a ride on the comfort seat and my whole leg went numb from the padding constricting blood flow.

Awesome bike and congratulations. 218# may be a bit heaver than the OP wants to be, but we're not talking crazy overweight. The bike will help with getting in shape, loosing weight mostly happens in the kitchen though.


Now start piling the miles on. No excuses. Bicycling is a great adventure.

Thank you everybody for the comments. An update, i changed the frame from L to M/L since is more my side. I really feel the difference in comfort now.
Also i bough biking pants with padding and boy what a huge difference. Now i have no problem sitting on the saddle.

I start yesterday riding the bike finally and i rode about 15 miles with an average of 11.9 Mph 7 Miles in the morning and 7.5 Miles on evening. I guess is a good start. I will try to make at least 7 miles per day.

From the bike perspective, i love this bike. Is very light, agile and solid.

^^^This. Get rid of that saddle. Comfort isn't the amount of "cush" on the saddle but rather a saddle that supports the sit bones properly.

I wonder if anyone hating on the saddle has even tried that model.

I have (own two). It's a Serfas Rx with cut outs for the perineum zone and My current commuter saddle. I've also toured with it. Probably the most comfortable saddle I've used for long distance next to a Brooks "type". I also own two Brooks, a VO touring and about ten other saddles.

Perhaps we could let the new cyclist ride for a bit before telling him to get rid of parts of his bike.

I looked really hard at the fastroad comax 1 & anyroad advanced 1. Preferred the AA1, but not the color. If it were FC1 color scheme , I might have been in trouble.

Btw... Congrats on the good looking bike. The color scheme is the same as my 2015 Roam 2. The grips and bar ends are exactly what I have on my Giant as well. Tried Ergon grips, but the Giant grips were much more comfortable for me. Hydro brakes? I have mechanical disk on my Specialized Roubaix, and the hydraulic disks on my Roam are much better.

IMO, you get the most bang for your buck with Giant bikes.
