Does anyone here participate? We live about an hour away, too busy to commit to the entire weekend but may try one day.

We have done several of them, but not in the last couple of years. Thinking about doing Brenham.

A decade or so ago participated in the SW tandem rally in Brenham . . . and lots of other places in our 42+ years of tandeming.
Do it, you'll love it!!!

We're doing a ride through Heartcycle in Fredericksburg, Texas in the 3rd week of March. Never been to Texas. This is a fixed-base bike tour (not tandem specific). Looking forward to it.

Without dissing anyone, a week of fixed base cycling in Fredericksburg does not require a tour operator or much planning ahead, if you can get there on your own. Arguably, the paved roads of Gillespie County are some of the finest cycling in the south.

Here are numerous routes, all of which start in town and are easy to cycle to.

Also, there is Texas Hell Week, which isn't really a week of hell unless you choose to make it so. Welcome to HellWeek.com

There are plenty of hotels year round, B&B's, AirBnB, etc. Unless you choose to stay at a B&B out near the periphery, you can walk to the restaurants and shopping.

There are now two bike shops, and I can recommend Hill Country as excellent. Check their days open, as they split back and forth with their shop in Kerrville (25+/- miles).

We have done rides with Heartcycle before. They are a pretty minimalist in terms of support & hand-holding. I think that they arranged the lodging, have a support van for 2x or so SAG stops per day and some socialization. Other tours we have done with them were not fixed base and they transport luggage in that case.

It is about a 14 hour drive from where we live (near Denver) to Fredericksburg. We have cycled a lot in Colorado but I've only set foot in Texas before on business trips. Many have praised the cycling around Fredericksburg. We're looking forward to it.

Sounds you have a good plan. Enchanted Rock SP, Nimitz Museum (Museum of the Pacific), Wildflower farms and LBJ Ranch are all worth the sidetrip. As LBJ said " the whole world is welcome here".

The last two Midwest Tandem Rallys have been fun. Apparently more than a few teams do multiple regional rallys. Don't remember anyone mentioning SWTR.

I'm left wondering how a event that is in the eastern half of the continental US can be the Southwest Tandem Rally.

I wouldn't tell a Texan that he on not in the West.

We did the SWTR in 2015, which was in Fredricksburg and we had a great time. Very well organized and the attendees were very nice. We have a previous commitment, so we won't be able to attend this year.

Us East Coast folks think anything west of the Mississippi is west. :-)

I just saw the sign up list, about 80 teams! As a relative newby, that would be cool to see! Hope they let us participate for just one day, with a corresponding discount...
