Coolest Bike Store In Paris
My wife and I are going to Paris for the first time next month. Through careful negotiating, I've carved out time for one (1) bike shop visit.
As you may imagine, it's gotta be a good one.
It's not necessairly shiny new things I want to see but a sense of history and honor of the sport I love.
Anybody have one in mind?

You want Paris Vert, 32 rue Damremont, 75018 Paris. Parisians go there, they are honest blokes who do not charge a fortune, and, if the job takes no time, they don't charge at all. Note that you'll need to speak some French.

Sorry, if you want cool rather than good, then try the bike stores down from République direction Bastille.
Posted before I saw the above. There are lots of cycle stores near the canal St Martin. They cater for the weekend trendy Parisian cyclists. They aren't necessarily bad, but they do have a good range.

By the way, I'd strongly recommend cycling along the canal Saint Martin. Really non-touristy local Parisian area, and, if you head north then turn west towards gare du Nord, you'll find the best Indian restaurants in Paris, if not Europe. There's also a Sunday market along the canal which is well worth a visit.

I was going to recommend Rando-Boutique near the Porte de Vincennes, but I just checked their website and saw they will close March 3 and reopen another store in 2020 outside of Paris. They have some rare bikes on display; a couple of Rene Herse bikes and an Aluminum tandem built by Barra who used a now lost technique of welding aluminum with a torch. If you get there before March 3 it would be worth a visit.

For sure, especially if you have an interest in classic bikes.

Please don't take it the wrong way, but what's so special about going to a store, be it a bike shop in France or a grocery in Oklahoma. You need something and they have it, you walk in and buy it -- job done. I like riding bikes, but not seeing the special appeal of shops. What am I missing?
