Riding season approach-eth! Wicking Ts are back

FYI -- I stopped in a WalMart this morning on my way to work to pick up a Valentine's card for the Wife (hint-hint-hint) this morning, and on the way to the greeting card section I passed the men's clothing. They finally brought out (Northern Ohio seasonal) the fast-dry moisture-wicking Ts in the neon yellow that I use on my cycling commute. $5.97.

Yes, I wear those bright yellow shirts often while riding around. For the price you can't beat them.

You mean you don't want a Rapha or a Assos wicking t-shirt for $79? I don't either. I buy mine at Walmart also.

The Walmart wicking Ts make great base layers for winter.

Good to know they're at WallyWorld; I have several from Target (yay men's dept.), but this year it's all subdued/ninja colors. Now, if I can just bring myself to overcome my moral allergy...

And yes, I'm a total Fred. Happy banana slug.

Today I saw my first cycling commuter of the season, riding with a much-too-dim light set. Even though he was 'oncoming' -- even 20 minutes before sunrise on a cloudy dismal day -- I barely saw the dim-flashing headlight, and his taillight was a almost invisible VERY dim steady red. As he was riding towards me, I saw the yellow pedal reflectors before I saw his flashing headlight! Afterwards, I thought that I should have stopped and offered him one of the light sets that I had iced up on suggestion that oddjob2 posted from BestBuy that was still in the bag on the front seat.... $7.99 200Lum LED headlight and a much brighter LED blinking rear... https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insigni...=ref:212,loc:2

You guys could be wearing Rapha and not even know it.

Remember that Walmart bought Rapha.

I wouldn't be surprised if those $8 wicking tees were actually rebranded from the Rapha clearance page or Brevet Jerseys which failed final inspection.

A sure sign is when Walmart starts recommending that their wicking tees only get washed in special Equate brand garment wash.

I too am on the Walmart cycling wear program. I've been disappointed by traditional cycling jerseys, but maybe I need to give them another shot in the future. I *want* to like them, I just can't.

That’s a perfect riding shirt as long as you don’t need pockets, a zipper, or sleeves and hem that fits properly when you’re in a riding position, as opposed to standing up straight.

So a $50-75 cycling jersey has what advantage over these T-shirts for a half-hour commute? I bought the wicking-T in a +1 or +2 size so it'd be long enough to fit 'properly' (even with my 60-yr-old 'aero-belly'), sleeves are the same length as a cycling jersey, and I have pockets in my hiking shorts or additional 'storage' capability in my seat- or handlebar bag. Again, what are the disadvantages of this much cheaper solution??

Oh, AND I can wear this shirt into a store/fast-food establishment without looking like a MAMIL!

It seems that for your riding situation, a jersey doesn’t have any advantage over a cheap t-shirt. That was exactly the point of my post.

Yeah, I went out for a ride the other day and for the first time in quite a few months regretted wearing long sleeves. So though not a T, .....it was wicking a lot of moisture.

Sorry, but I took your post to indicate that only Cycling jerseys should be worn when riding a bike.

I've had a bunch of cycling jerserys - in fact I gave away most of them - some were unworn - because I just didn't wear them. I'd rather wear a wicking T! I have exactly two pair of padded 'cycling shorts' - that are only used on rides of over 50 miles. Since I seldom ride that far in any day (other than a couple of organized Metrics or Centuries per year) I wear the aforementioned hiking shorts.

I don't even own any cycling jerseys. I wouldn't mind getting one some day, but the wicking T-shirts work well enough for me and keep me dry during the summer.

They're my go to gym and mtn biking shirts. I have more expensive wicking shirts, but they don't see time on the mtn bike.

Strictly cycling jerseys on the roadie, with a long sleeve wicking shirt over it when necessary.

Nearly half my rides, by number not distance, I am wearing a tie.

one of my favorite shirts for cycling is actually a thick, honey comb weave, Brooks Podium Equilibrium, long sleeve, 1/2 zip running shirt I got on sale at Dick's Sporting Goods. I've used it by itself, w a base under it, even used it as a base under other things
