'89 Trek 660 Build
I picked up this sweet 660 frame at our local annual swap meet because it was my size (50 cm), it had a fresh professional repaint, and the price was right.
Bought a nice groupo from one of the BF members and the build is coming together nicely. Fresh grease in the headset and bottom bracket, and all parts treated to a nice polishing. Added a gold Regina 5 speed freewheel.
I will add some gum wall tires, new cables and tape. Brake levers had safety levers, so they will be replaced with some Dia Compe aero levers. Should be done here very soon and ready to add to my stable of vintage steel rides.

Just remember to leave off those turkey levers on your build........
Not the best thing to have on bikes.....plus, they were not standard on Trek 660s.....

No doubt, that's why I removed them! I don't like the handles with the protrusions and mounting sticking out so I'm going to source another pair of Dia Compe levers without them.

Finally finished!
Great group ride today then finished up the cabling, took for a test ride. Fine tuning, maybe new bar tape, crimp cable ends and done!

Random fun fact: My dad’s 1973 P1800ES was the first car I ever drove over 100mph. On my 16th birthday, with my newly minted drivers license scarcely 3 hours old.
That was the last time my friend Paul ever asked me “How fast will this car go?”

I got one myself. I saw a Trek 1000 (aluminum) years ago, with the same paint scheme (white/red), and I told myself I had to get it if I ever had the chance. Then I saw this bike in an ad last June. Steel and lugged. Never knew this even existed. I drove 4 hours one way and overbid another buyer on what was already an overpriced bike, to get this. But it's now a keeper.
