Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I got a Giro Pnemo on sale last weekend in red to match my bike. I was almost tossed from the OCP for wearing a MTB helmet on my road bike.

Bell Sweep, which fits me better than Giro. I bought the XC version, which has a (gasp) visor. I like the shade it gives my eyes. I make the OCP points up by color selection. It's blue with light gray, which matches my gloves, my bike and my favorite jersey (aka, my gay superhero outfit according to the runners of the world apparently).

Matte Black....low key, stealth
or the Ltd Ed Gold lone star ...? would the gold clash with blonde hair?

or should I commission Peter Max to do a very special custom helmet?

does anyone do a naked/polished ti version?

should i be coordinating with my bike or my eyes?

Neither, you've got to coordinate with your toenails, of course.

I've committed a horrible OCP faux pas by using a MTB helmet (Giro E2) when I ride my roadbike. However, I do remove the visor and the helmet does match my bike so I think I've at least halfway compensated. Also, it's a "special edition" model and came with a "helmet pod" carrying case so that should make up for some of the deficit.

What you do is color coordinate the bike.

Take for example my Motobecane, while not OCP in of itself, it has matte black with silver lettering. My helmet is silver with dark grey trim, nearly a perfect match by contrast with my bike. (Funny enough it wasn't intentional, I had the helmet way before the bike )

Now, as far as aesthetics, I'm a total aesthetics slave. I'd have to go for a Giro Atmos, but only if it's in Silver (light grey does NOT count!).

edit: by the way, this is my helmet: https://www.nashbar.com/nashbar_photo...m/LG-TBS.2.gif

I bought a blue Giro Monza when they were in sale last year for $50. It looks great and matches all my bllue stuff beautifully.

catatonic, I think you've got it in reverse. It seems to me you decided to buy your bike to match your favorite helmet. Good show!!!

Road helmets tend to have steep, curved fronts, and an overall smoother shape. Lots of small vents.

Mountain helmets tend to be very angular in shape, point fronts (often with visors), and very large vents.

There are helmts in each category which seem like they belong in the other, but the above generalizations cover the majority of them.
