1948 Hawthorne Klunker

Here is my 48 Hawthorne finished project. It started out as a bare frame with cracked welds. I had everything repaired and had it powder coated Southwest yellow. It has red Rhyno Lite XL hoops laced to Sturmey Archer drum hubs. The rear is single speed freewheel. It has a sun fork with a generic slingshot stem and handmade Tick One bars. The cranks and brake levered are also Sturmey Archer. The saddle is a brooks B17 and it has matching leather Origin 8 grips. Maxxis Holy Rollers is the Rubber choice. It was a very fun project and it exceeded my expectations!

I've got an old Hawthorne coming my way when the weather warms up a bit. Your recent posts are good motivators.

That's just plain cool!

Love the wheels and tires and those hubs look fantastic. The red accents along with the brown saddle and grips look great against the yellow as well. And a chrome fork to boot! Classy build.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind getting around town on that.

I'd give two nickels for that! Great job. Front tire needs to be rotated so the name is over the valve stem.

I like every detail.

This is definitely an incentive to finally finish my pre-WWII (I think) Rollfast girls bike.

Well done and fun bike to let loose with! My faves are bikes built by ones own expression, creativity and skill. Too many are caught up into over restoration, stock part this or that.

Ps. I realize what the term Klunker means, but not yours ;")
