Sturmey archer aw oil cap - does it float?
So this is a strange question that maybe a handful of people can answer but does your plastic sturmey archer aw hub oil cap float? The oil cap is "closed" if that matters.
I bought a new replacement oil cap and dropped it down the sump cover while trying to corral it through 40 spokes. Long story short this had resulted in a series of unfortunate events including a pump blowing water on the wall and a cut pipe but I can stop digging in the sand in my sump if it does indeed float and put my efforts to look elsewhere.
It has been one of those days.

I'm no help, though. I don't know if they float.

It is still missing.
A side benefit is I found an unglued pipe on my sump which could have flooded my basement so I guess there is a silver lining after all

theS-A hubs made in recent decades eliminated the oil port in the hub shell since the hollow right axle end is a fine oil port

Incidentally, having dropped one in the past during installation, I found that impaling it on a small Phillips screwdriver helped me guide it into position and start threading it into the hole in the hub.

Good technique. A mechanic friend of mine showed me this technique to get the nuts onto a carburetor where it was difficult to reach. Works like a charm.

Concur with @thumpism. Two plastic oil port caps float for me as well. I even pushed them under a couple times and they popped back up.
Bon chance

I imagine thousands of BF members all over the world have been going through their stash today, looking for an oil port cap and a container, only to find out they'd been beaten to it by thumpism.

If anyone wants proof of interstellar wormholes my sump is a likely candidate. I fixed my sump plumbing, drained the basin, and sifted through many scoops of the sand around the sump.
Some little alien creature is probably wondering what my little oil cap is and why it suddenly appeared next to their favourite methane geyser.

Here's a wormhole in my neighborhood, but anything I drop has to roll about a mile before it disappears.

Why spend 4 hours rebuilding sumps and smell like stale wet sand when you can put personalized touches on your bike like this?
