What is more advanced than BOA laces for cycling shoes?

I am upgrading my cycling shoes to all BOA lacing system. BOA seem like the future of lacing but I could be missing something even more revolutionary out there. Any ideas?

BOA isn't really the future...its just one of many options and is the present.
I like it and have shoes with BOA, but I dont use them and think they are futuristic.

There really isn't anything more advanced...though I dont think BOA is advanced as its a simple system and there are many different levels of BOA quality.

For me, velcro straps hit the sweet spot.

The one issue with laces is sooner or later they go for a visit to the adjacent chainring.

I'll echo what's been said: laces.

The lightest, most aero non-custom shoes you can get are with laces. They're also quite comfortable, but of course that's much more subjective.

Worn-out older shoes: ratchet + 2 velcro straps. Worked just fine.

I have some 16-year-old road shoes with three Velcro straps… Still work fine. On my MTB shoes, I’ve already replaced the boa dials twice in 2.5 years.

Maybe 30 years ago. I've paid a little more attention when I tie them since. I always double the bows and ensure that neither bows nor the ends can reach even the cranks. Tug tight. Cut new laces that length and burn/melt the cut end.) Many of my miles are on fix gears. Catching a strong synthetic lace in the chain going downhill? Might not be fun. That lace will tighten until something breaks. It's never happened in 100k miles less 17 years of straps.

if you tie the laces to the center section of the pedal, they cannot intertwine with the crank.

modern problems require modern solutions.

Bluetooth Boas- tension automatically tightens during high watts/rpms as programed on your head unit.

Having to recharge them is a small price to pay for the increased performance!

I have that on a pair of 5/10s. It is a good idea. An intact bow loop can get snagged, too.

I don't care for Boa closures on anything, but they are not a deal breaker on a helmet. For me, they are on shoes. My Sidi shoes use a ratcheting buckle and strap and Velcro. Suits me just fine.

My touring/commuting shoes are laced. There are elastic bands on the fronts that hold the loops. Not a problem at all. And a lace can easily be replaced if it breaks. Some sort of pull over strap, not so much. Simple system requires only a simple solution in the even of a problem.
