Eastern UP Gravel/Dirt Road Routes
Chippewa County/Bay Mills Township will be our home base for a vacation later this summer. Point Iroquois Lighthouse/Monocle Lake are good landmarks for the area of the rental cabin. Does anyone have any experience on the US Forest Service roads in the area? The Forest Service Interactive Visitor Map (https://www.fs.fed.us/ivm/) for Hiawatha National Forest seems to be a good asset, but I am curious on a road condition report for anyone who has some experience out here.
I expect the roads to be sandy - probably too sandy to ride on my cyclocross bike with 700x32, slightly knobby tires, in some places, but I expect my old hardtail 26er should be just fine.
I will mostly ride from the rental cabin in the general Lighthouse area, so as to leave the rest of the family with a vehicle while I am out riding, so loops (or out and back, if necessary) is preferred. Probably looking at 40 mile rides, 50 miles absolute maximum. Being self-sufficient with spares and tools is not a problem.
Thanks in advance.

taking a quick look at Strava Heatmaps, it looks like Iroquois Rd and Tower Rd get the most traffic.
