Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Touching the Butt

How many of you guys out there are comfortable touching another cyclist's butt?

Call me what you will, but I must confess a reluctance to touch another man's butt, much less a butt in tight lycra. And yet I see so much of it in cycling. Repeatedly during the TDF I see riders touching each other's butts. Even during my group rides it seems to be a common mode of male affection.

Why not, say...a tap on the shoulder? A pat on the back? A pat on the back is something I can more easily warm up to. Just not a sweaty lycra butt.

You just aren't confident in your heterosexuality is all.

If you were totally hetero and confident of that, it wouldn't bother you.

It's really simple matter of safety...this lets a rider in a tight and fast moving peloton/group know that you've overlapped his/her wheel and that you're there in their blind spot. By the time you're in a position to touch a shoulder or back, they can see your wheel. It only bothers those who have issues with their sexual identity.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I don't think it is a"mode of male affection". The A$s is the first thing you can tap on the rider in front of you to let him know you are there in a non-verbal way.

How many of you guys are comfortable jerking off another cyclist... hahahahahahahaa!!!!

Seriously, Its just a hip, or lower back, upper butt.

I give a buddy a push on the incline if he looks like he's about to get dropped, and sometimes you have to put a hand on someone hip so they know you are there. You can reach their back in order to do this.

Now if you are going to give it a squeeze, or something, well... thats really not sporting, lol

Ohhh...so, is it true then that being hetero and confident requires one to be comfortable doing something gay? Not that tapping the butt is gay, but just taking your reasoning to its logical extreme. Would it stand to reason that a guy who is comfortable massaging another guy's butt is somehow MORE hetero than one who won't? Interesting theory...

It's hard to push someone without touching their butt, isn't it??

I'm confused???? Am I gay now that I've given someone a shove to get on the wheel/out of the way/let them know I'm coming etc etc???

Aren't guys always patting each other's asses in football?
It's not a sexuality thing, it's just a comfort thing, I'm ticklish and if someone touches my ass while I'm in a paceline, I guarantee you, I WILL take down everyone behind me.

I see a guy riding down the road in a tight multi-colored shirt, unzipped to the navel, tight shorts with no underwear, shaved legs, touching another guys a$$, I immediately think hetero.

How about all those wacky fans on the slopes of the alps and the pyrenes? They are habitually groping the riders as they go by.

Shocking.

is that just you repeating someone else's words or do you really know what you're talking about? i want documented proof! i mean..if you're that comfortable with your sexuality, then you should be able to tongue kiss your best guy friend as a joke, right? it's just a joke, right?
i'm not real big on touching another guy's butt, either. and i'm pretty sure i'm not "one of the gays." it's often just a case of being over analytical about your actions or someone else's -- reading too much into things. now, i smack my dog on the butt all the time and don't think twice about it, but only because she seems to get a kick out of it for whatever reason. most dogs do. bah...nevermind...

haha...
next time i'm on a really fast group ride, i'm gonna reach over and smack someone on the ass and say, "yeah..you like that?!"

This is so funny...

Seriously, I'd rather have someone tap me on the butt than on the arm or shoulder - my butt will be firmly planted and not prone to flinch away. Someone taps me on the arm or shoulder I could potentially lose control of my steering. And if you're that close, it wouldn't be pretty. Yes, I'm a newbie when it comes to group riding.

Now, if you try to tap me on the butt when I'm out of the saddle, I just may have to drop you quick.

Just how hard is someone gonna tap you to cause you to lose control?
I'll remember next time you're out of the saddle.. I'll just reach around and under the butt...

LOL! Just make sure you're wearing those gloves.

I guess you're right, but like I said, I'm a newb and never been "tapped". I'm sure it tickles a little...

Reading this thread makes me feel gay.

Oh, the other kind of gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
