Fixed stoker stem
We have an adjustable stoker stem maxed out at 200mm. I hear switching to a fixed stem can save a bunch of weight for cheap, but I can’t find anywhere to buy a 200mm stem (except for something really pricy and custom). Any advice? Thanks.

The cheapest way to do a fixed stoker stem is to use a regular 1 1/8 or 1 1/4 stem and then shim the capain's seatpost to 28.6 or 31.8mm, but the longest such stem you'll find is likely 150mm, which is way too short. Da Vinci has Ti stoker stems in 200mm listed for $220, not sure you're going to get much cheaper than than.

This thread had some good info, but it’s now 9 years old:

I suspect you won’t find many of the sources still valid, but I think the idea of looking into the trials market is good. I took a quick look and came up with some 180mm options, but no 200mm.

^ This. Because the captain’s seat tube is typically about a 72-73 degree angle. The higher up the captains seatpost you go, the shorter you make the stoker’s reach.
So higher up the captain’s seatpost, with fewer degrees of rise ( or even flipped down) to maintain the same drop as a stem mounted lower on the seat post with a steeper angle.
For us a 130 mm stem with 6 degree rise allows us to get the same reach and drop as her single bike.

A 180mm x 35 degrees "trials" stem works great for our setup and is nice and cheap at SJS Cycles in the UK: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/stems/ra...p-black-180mm/
They also offer 165 and 150mm versions.
As mentioned above, use a 27.2mm captain's seatpost, a shim for the 28.6mm stem and another shim to fit your frame's seat tube.

Thanks. I ordered a Jitsie 180mm stem a few weeks ago from Spain and it works great.
