Saluda Grade Rail Trail
It looks like the Saluda Grade Rail Trail project has gotten a green light. I doubt I'll be around to see the completion, but it certainly is an exciting development!

The article was subscribe only, but I pulled up Saluda/Tryon/down towards Spartanburg Map and this looks interesting.

In the past decade or so, there seem to have been a good number of "rail trail" projects agreed to or begun.
In my own region, there have been a handful of shorter lengths dedicated to this, on long-unused stretches. Within 100mi of me, there are a couple of much longer segments that have been proposed. Great concepts, if maintenance of them is planned well enough. Good way to reclaim the natural spots for less-intrusive uses (as compared to railways).
Two thumbs up, to communities, counties and states that are pursuing such improvements.
