Is this a C&V Shopping bag holder?
Came on my new to me Cinelli bar I posted here. I might be narrow minded, but cannot imagine anything else than it is for keeping bags hung on the bar in place. Any better ideas or anybody who also has one? Thanks in advance for any input, even for good jokes.

there was a discussion thread on devices similar to this over at thecabe a couple years back
the examples under discussion were fabricated of rubber
a poster who seemed to be familiar with them said they acted as a stop for when a cyclist wished to lean their machine up against a wall
the examples in that discussion had a brand name, maker's name and even a stock number (IIRC!)

To me, this looks more like the infamous corrosive bonding we always hear about between aluminum and a stray pecan.

Thanks everyone! juvela that seems like an acceptable option. next time Im in the cellar I'm going to check if it is not one piece, in which case it must came from Cinelli with the bar (unlikely) because of the integdated brake levers.

Are those slots deep enough to hold a cigarette while you drink wine from the bidon?

I remembered those, back in the days a lot of bikes here had them.
Indeed, for leaning your bike against a brick wall so you didnt damage the chrome on your bar.

Yes it's for leaning your classic city bike on the wall. Bianchi put one on their '94ish Rex and Regina retro machines. I'm not sure these were ever sold in the USA or even actually produced at all

I agree with others. It’s designed to keep the bend in the bars from getting scraped up. Pics might show up if you Google manubrio salva.

Yeah I was actually hoping it's for something like that. These guys are not far from what I look like on a grocery run.. and also on their bikes still there is place for the newspaper rack.
If the beauty project wouldn't get realized, I'll stick the bar on the ALAN to test the brown protector/bag or onion holder.
Too bad I think the Italians only solved half of the problem though at lest then it comes to leaning against walls. I guess I'm not the only one who does it, eventually scratching the side skirt of the saddle... raise your hands if you know an good solution against that (beside matching insulation tape).
