My guess is that it is the break/brake, etc. thing in general.
Since I do a lot of my internet browsing on bicycle related sites I see those misnomers quite often, like distressingly often.
I often lament my lackluster education but since I started reading the comment sections of various sites (especially politically oriented ones) I have come to the realization that my primary/secondary education wasn't half bad at all, or apparently a lot better than a lot of other folks.
