Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

In my continued quest to pollute young minds with my dangerous and radical ideas.

Teaching first grade can sometimes be like having your own little robot army.

At my suggestion, a few of them made these cards that promote cycling. Notice that none of the bikes have rear derailleurs.

If anyone wants to make spoke cards out of these, I don't think the kids would mind.

If your students are using you as their basis for their bicycle knowledge, then it looks to me as though you ride a recumbant.
Do you need to confess something to us?

"Oneless Car" sounds like a zen buddist koan, when it's written without spaces like that.

I feel the need to ponder it's true meaning...

Some of those were &#$%& funny. Of course, the true impact of primary school art cannot be appreciated until one has seen themself drawn in the style of a 7 year old Picasso on ritilin.

I am myself a former art teacher, and I give you credit for working with the hobbits, arguably the most difficult, distracted humans on the planet. Those little guys wore me out! I much rather work with students that weren't tempted to taste the medium.

Kudos, MrC.

When I was recently employmentaly challenged I painted a mural
on a wall of my wifes office. She works with 'problem' kids in the school.
I would ask each kid to help me and knowing that I rode a bike into
the school they always wanted to talk about BMX bikes. I dont
know anything about them but I tried and we had a good time.
Kids love bikes....If we could only find a way to get more of them to like
them into adulthood !
