Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

In praise of the Moots seatpost.

matthewandre: i just realized what i like about my seatpost
matthewandre: aesthetically
adamkell: ?
matthewandre: the clamp is a circle
matthewandre: and its about the same size as the the dustcap/BB area
matthewandre: two similar elements at either end of the seatpost/ seat tube
adamkell: ah, good eye
adamkell: that's nice symmetry
matthewandre: i agree
matthewandre: never thought of it that way
matthewandre: and design-wise, its pretty hard to go wrong with a circle
matthewandre: visually, structurally, etc
matthewandre: circles are strong
adamkell: are you really bored at work?
matthewandre: oh absolutely
matthewandre: i've already im'd the mr rogers vid to a buncha people
matthewandre: not sure what else to do
matthewandre: i might make a thread
matthewandre: i'm thinkin about it
matthewandre: the threshold, it is low
adamkell: quite
matthewandre: see: quicksilver
adamkell: but there are a lot of other bored people out there
matthewandre: agreed
matthewandre: sigh

It's kindof a ***** to switch saddles, but I've never had anything close to a problem with it. And this is also the guy I used on the tour a couple years back. Quality.

For twice the cost of a Thomson it better do something.

I imagine quite a bit of the cost is that the f'n thing is titanium. And I'm not going to argue that the Thomson isn't a better value-- my MTB and my tourer both have Thomsons.

But that's part of why I will inevitably drop good cash on bike treats... three years later I glance at this guy and I'm still learning and noticing things. So maybe that might be zerobug's "something".

I didn't mean to criticize, I'm definitely in the "spend too much on pretty bike things" category... just had a minute of sticker shock when I was looking at their site. I rode with a guy on a century that was on a Vamoots and it was some serious hotness. It had the whole stem/post/bottle holder treatment and had a serious industrial beauty thing going on.

Check their cross frame... there's some crazy **** going on with the seat stays.

Christ, I honestly had no idea **** was that expensive.

Feel kinda like a jerk now, sheesh...

That cross frame is unreal.

Moots singlespeed 29er ... the thought of that actually made me tingle a little bit. And MY GOD that's the nicest selection of bikes I've seen on a site in months.

Sevens are hot but they are notorious for shoving their geometry and bike positioning ideals down your throat... there are more than a few tales of new owners who didn't get what they were expecting.

I have the same post (non setback as well), it's great--but yeah, it's a pain to change saddles, which I don't do often anyway

moots suggested I use acetone to take the decals off, it took the finish off as well but it looks better anyway

def not my uno...I would never apply the SF treatment to one of my bikes. It is a friends and I think it is the shajam...so piss off. No disrespect.

edit: wait you are talking about my new SS MTB, not the UNO I posted for a friend. But I still feel the same. No disrespect
