Sonic Youth is a band I tried so hard to get into and it just never happened.

Thurston Moore once stole my chair at a Mexican restaurant when I went to order. I will never forgive him, even though he probably didn't know anyone was sitting there.

That said, it should be a good show.

my work's forced me to be immersed in all things sonic youth for the past 15 years or so, so i'm constantly trying to decide what facets of their whole thing i'm "into" and what's just rote. they're great though.

not much longer. there's on last gasp effort to have it landmarked as the city's longest-operating saloon. some samples of the club's floor were taken to landmarks in the past 10 days or so. it seems like a long-shot though. basically, this gig happened cos hilly ran into thurston on the street a little bit ago and asked if they wanted to do one more show for old time's sake. they figured it'd be a good way to start the tour, celebrate the release of the new record and say goodbye to the club.

my friend hooked me up with some tickets to the show last night.

maybe you saw my johnny coast locked up outslde

great show, close and personal setting, much better than the last time i saw them, typical low-energy nyc crowd.

about a month ago, i was sitting on my steps in greenpoint minding my own business when some people started to walk by carrying some photo equipment. i was pretty sure one of them was lee renaldo, but i wasn't sure.

about a minute later, thurston (you can't miss him) and kim walk by. i follow them down to the end of the block to the river. they were doing a little photo shoot and i hung the whole time, took some pictures of my own, chatted, etc.

there aren't many bands i'd actually sit there and watch do a shoot, but hey.. this is one of the seminal bands of my youth.

check it out

yeah. for the most part, they go out of their way to converse with random people and fans. i have hours of footage of hilarious conversations that have ensued from those sorts of interactions on the road.

when michele was working in visitor services at MoMA this guy walks up and says he needs an artists pass. she said he looked really familiar and she was trying to figure out who he was. when she asked him his name he said Lee Renaldo and outloud she goes" "OHHHH!" haha she said he was a little weirded out by her.

take a look at the photographs on the new cd..well, maybe you don't have to.

when i ran a DIY performance space out of my apartment in greenpoint thurston came to one of the shows. he was a really cool, laid back dude, easy to talk to.
tho he never took me up on my feedback guitar duel.

back to bikes!

Wow. That was an incredibly disappointing show. The sound guy was more on point than most, and that's the high point. A low energy short set that was almost entirely songs from the new album. I hope the rest of the tour is better.

I vote for Daydream Nation as being the Sonic Youth album most relevant to fixed gear/singlespeed bicycles. Honestly, you guys do know there are other subforums, right? https://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php?f=207
