Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Centuries

I'm interested in doing a dozen organized centuries next year. Is there a single website where I can seen a listing of as many as possible?

Here's one that is (mostly) for California:

There used to be a website that had lots of century rides broken down by state and date listed in descending order throughout the year. Don't remember the exact site though?

If you're a member of bikejournal.com (and you should be), then just go to the "Rides" tab and click "View Rides" and you can search by date or by state. There are tons of rides on there, and you can even add your own if you want.

You need to let us know where you're at. In the midwest then Mike's list (mentioned earlier) is definitely the best. Active - although a great source - doesn't even come close for centuries.

Didn't there used to be a site like www.centuryrides.com or something? What happened to that?

+1 on Active.com
Talk to your local clubs (or join if you haven't) and the LBS' in your area. They should be able to provide upcoming annual rides and notable centuries. Most clubs have websites and/or newsletters.
Also, each state has several MS150 rides and Tour de Cure Rides.

There used to be a site www.bikecenturies.com, but it appears not to be up anymore.

The other resource you may want to check out is www.active.com. The will have listing for all the events that you can register through their service for. You can search by location.

my location

I live in Albuquerque, NM and will travel a reasonable amount--6-700 miles to ride a century. Thanks for the tips so far.
