Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I am having the opposite problem, ebay is killing my wallet.

However, I am excited about the swing bike I'm picking up today. Now if only this rain would go away.

i'm not sure if you did this but you enter the max price you want to bid. so if the bike was 800 and the maximum amount you would ever pay for it is 1200 then you enter 1200. the price to everyone including you becomes 801.00. so if someone bids 850.00 they get the "you are outbid" message. that's why the best way to stick it to em with last minute bidding is just entering your max from the start, because then they'll be bidding 1 dollar at a time and you'll already be up them by 100.

a lot of people that use ebay don't even know that. i'm not saying you don't but just letting everyone know

oh, yeah, i did that. but i raised my top price as i saw it go up...if i won i would have spend about 700 on it, which is more than i should be spending on anything right now, but...still...it was a beautiful bike and it would have been a great deal.

oh, well. i'm just checking ebay over and over again now. dammit, that thing was almost 100% campy!

eSnipe is the answer... If you really want something on ebay, then use eSnipe.

there you go.

i've been dreaming about it all day and looking for something else, but nothing compares. i want to e-mail death threats to the winner, but i'm more mature than that, so i'll just sit and whine about it all day.

Considering crazy ebay prices, that is/was a pretty good deal. Don't think I would have paid that much, but...

ezsnipe also works and you get 3 free auctions, and then its 10cents each after that.

and how does that help? if the OP would have bid the highest amount he was willing to pay, he would own the bike. Unless the software bids more than you were willing to pay, it is ultimately useless.

Secondly, how does anyone "win" on ebay--- they don't offer prizes. What great selling psychology-- "winning" bidder.

You "win" by willing to pay the highest for an item.

Your prize is the item you are bidding on. If you really want that item, it's a pretty good prize.

Alright, this is a dumb argument against ebay. People have "won" auctions for many years before ebay was around.

Uhh, it's fairly simple. You put the highest bid in, and then
the auction ends, thereby eliminating any further bidding.
No one said it would guarantee you the auction, but it would
certainly increase the odds of winning (yes, you "win" auctions).
