The "Real Feel" temp this AM was -11. Moreover, the winds are at around 30mph in Central Park, which when riding along the Hudson River most of my commute, would be worse. Too much! I left the bike at home. Spin class tonight, yeah!

I actually rode to work.
It's supposedly -16c (3f) with 24km/h~33km/h (15~21mph) winds.
I thought my nose was the worst off during the ride, but aparently it's 8c inside the store.

Not in NYC, but cold here in MD too. I not only didn't ride into work, I didn't go in at all.
Working from home today, still in my jammies even I love my job!

My commute is only about 5 miles, so I rode in today.
I was bundled up nicely... apart from my legs, so my knees 'n thighs got cold since I didn't have the extra layer of thermals.
But damn, the 59th Street Bridge can get cold when the wind whips up.
Made it all worth it as I passed the packed N train as it was waiting to enter the tunnel on the Queens side.

Too cold for me. I spent the last few days in San Francisco, where the weather was absolutely lovely, and was traumatized when I got off the plane at Kennedy Airport last night. I couldn't face it this morning. I can only imagine how cold it would have been going over the Queensboro Bridge.

Its not so bad out if you keep your face covered. I also wore two pairs of gloves, wool socks and a heavy winter coat. The wind was much worse yesterday ( plus there was snow).

And in SoCal, it jumped up to 85 degree high this past weekend! It went basically from winter to summer without spring. I guess I'll be suffering from heat waves in no time.

Meh.. I rode to the city from Midwood to have lunch with a friend. 3 thin layers, tights under jeans and a balaclava == nice and toasty. Reading this forum, mixed with some trial and error, has done absolute wonders for winter preparedness.

it's about 20~25min. I doubt it was really that cold when I went to work since the weather reports I looked at aren't the best.
today however, is cold and we're getting a huge dump of snow.

Didn't commute in but rode at 5am and IT'S COLD! I tried to layer as best I could but still felt the chill and the northern winds didn't make it any easier on my face. The winds going across the GWB were really bitter...

I didn't ride again today because I have an alumni event to attend after work. Somehow I don't think they'll offer bike parking. I don't mind so much today because of the SNOW falling right now. Doh!
Now also I don't feel so bad about yesterday. Seems like a lot of you who braved the cold had shorter commutes. In the summer on my roadie the ride takes me ~55 minutes. Yesterday... yikes! I would have expected at least 80 minutes (30 mph headwinds do that). That's a long time to be out in the cold with a workday yet to go!

I rode yesterday, despite the cold. I had class after work, so I even got a few extra miles in. Actually, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I have a 8.5 mile commute, and I was totally bundled up. When I was riding home from my class in the evening, I didn't even bother wearing my jacket...my base layer & my sweater were warm enough. But I did get wind burn on my stomach, so maybe I should have worn the jacket.
Today I didn't ride because of the snow forecast. Also, I had some work to do, which I was able to do on the train.

Rode in again this morning, and rode back tonight. The cold and wind are one thing I'll usually brave, but tonight, wow, it was slick. Took it real slow this evening, the traffic on York was all backed up (par for the course), which made it easier since I didn't have to worry as much about silly cagers trying to go too fast there...
Quite a few cars sliding around tonight though. Glad I only have ~5 miles one way for my commute and the bulk of it is in LIC/Astoria on quieter roads. Luckily, not nearly as many cars as usual in Queens on the side streets.
A decent number of folks on the 59th Street Bridge MUP though, and if they saw their backs they would probably be wishing for fenders, heh...

The cold, down to about 0 degrees wouldn't stop me, but the snow/rain/ice we're supposed to get tonight might send me to the T tomorrow morning. We'll see.

Hope NY and NYC were OK this morning. My kids' school was delayed for 2 hours and in that time the snow/freezing rain had changed to all rain. The roads were very wet, and there were a few BIG puddles to go around, but not slick at all. If I'd left at 8, I probably wouldn't have ridden. Hurray for the delay.

14 and change, the first 10 or so of which are done in a little over half an hour by zipping down the Hudson Greenway. It's the crosstown journey to the WillyB and double-back north in Bklyn that kills my time. The alternate route only really works early (o/w in traffic most of the time): down Riverside + side streets to get to CP, then across the 59th St. and Pulaski bridges followed by some meandering in Bklyn. A little shorter but takes about the same time in *good* conditions.
Edit: for the record, I didn't commute today. Riding into work in cold rain on slushy roads? nuh-uh, not interested!

I wussed out today due to the wet 'n slushy morning commute.
As usual in messy weather like this, midtown intersections were jammed up and all the peds fighting their way through the blocked crosswalks. Well... that happens even when the weather is fine, but it seemed a bit worse today.

The slush wasn't nearly as challenging as the ride home last night was. I mean, it was messy this morning, but last night it was slick, especially crossing over the Brooklyn Bridge.
