What clipless shoes + pedals?
What are all of you clipless folk riding?
I just picked up the Forte MTB shoes (feel a little big but I may deal) and am going to give them a go w/ the Egg Beater MXR pedals.

i scored an old old beat up pair of dominators on ebay over a year ago for super cheap, and holy crap, they were sooooo comfortable. i wear my clipless shoes all day long, and if i had to get another pair, i might break down and get another pair.
...although i really want a pair of carnacs. those are way hot.

I'm considering clipless, and came to this thread wanting to know why people ride what they do, not just what they have. What are the reasons you chose your pedals/shoes? What's best for a first choice?

its a completely different feel than clips 'n straps. to me, it feels a lot more dependable. sure, you're pogos and barspins are gonna suffer (failed wheelies with clipless pedals are devastating), but they really help keep your feet in the right place if you're concerned at all with your spin or your cadence.
if you've got a friend that'll let you try his or her rig out, i say go for it. i know a few people that used to ride clipless and switched back to straps, but for the most part, people i know (myself included) have a hard time going back to that setup.

For the OP-I use eggbeater SLs or Smartys with Lake MX185 shoes

I'm running Crank Bros. eggbeaters and I just bought a pair of Specialized Taho MTB shoes. The cleats are more recessed into the sole on these shoes compared to my previous shoes. The Taho MTB shoes are extremely comfortable to walk around in too. Since buying these shoes I love riding clipless.

I ride time atacs because they last. While I have seen a few broken ones over the years it is nothing compared to the mountain of broken crank brothers pedals out there. Atacs are easy to get in and out of, durable, and you wont EVER come out by accident unless you let your cleats wear out.
For shoes I am still running the same pair of Shimano M225s that I have had for the last 3 years because they fit, are stiff, and I cant seem to **** them up. I have replaced the buckles once but that is it.
For those of you riding ****ty off brand shoes that don't fit you have no idea what you are missing. I'm sure those things feel just fine because it is all that you are used to but you would be amazed how much nicer even a mid range shoe from Shimano or Sidi is.

my favorite thing about the atacs is the dependability and adjustability. I run the cleans with minimum float and max spring tension on my right foot, and one step back on my left, as i like to disengage with my left foot first. I feel much more in control and safe with clipless than clips and straps. as a bonus, i go faster, and climb better, too.

i still haven't taken a ride with the clipless setup, i was just practicing in my apartment getting in and out...getting the shoe at the correct position to click in.
hopefully the weather is decent enough tomorrow for a ride.

I love clips and straps too much to want to go clipless. I love the idea of being able to just walk around and not worry about my shoes staying in, or coming undone when I don't want them to.
I did a few days with clipless (my brothers set up), and I didn't like it.

I ride clipless and I can walk around just fine and my shoes always stay in and never come undone when I don't want them to. It's a matter of getting good shoes and setting the right tension on the pedals.

Eggbeaters with Cannondale Xcp2100s. Really werid at first but I love them.
BTW Eggbeaters seem to unclip easily when doing nuts-to-stem. Don't know if its just me but I've had it happen reguarly if im not paying attention to the angle of my leg.

+ TARCKBEAR. I bought them because I was tired of flexy shoes. It's not the pedal that I'm into, it's just the shoe. For riding, they are awesome. For tricks, they suck. I switch back to clips and straps every once in a while. I still like them and they look so. much. better. but they don't compare if I'm doing any kind of actual riding.

I scream for ice cream.
I've been riding w/ 520s and Dominators for awhile now. Wouldn't go back to clips and straps for anything. If I really need to walk around for awhile (ie, hours) after getting off the bike, I pack some other shoes.
